Fell at the last in the 2.40 at Cheltenham and just been confirmed by ITV that the vets couldn’t save him.
RIP HMS Seahorse 😢
March 11, 2026 at 15:21 #1758538S**t, I feared the worst when I saw him taking that crashing fall. He really deserved better, asking him to compete at a Festival after a fall, an unseat and a nine month break was quite an ask.
RIP HMS Seahorse
March 11, 2026 at 15:37 #1758545Fell, unseat, 184 days since he ran & they choose a big race at Cheltenham, so very sad, poor boy
RIP HMS SEAHORSE 🥀I can hear the Animal Rights drums beating 🙁
March 11, 2026 at 15:46 #1758553He was running a really good race too. Initially, Richard Hoiles said he had got up, but then Ed announced afterwards that he had been fatally injured.
I remember him running on the flat for Aiden O’Brien. A sad ending for him.
March 11, 2026 at 15:54 #1758562Remember the false start in the Fred Winter when he was so keen to get going he jumped the first hurdle? He came 4th that day.
“184 days since he ran & they choose a big race at Cheltenham”
I don’t think that was an issue, two out of his four wins came after big gaps and it says “keeping on when fell” on the report today. I missed the race itself but you don’t lie up in a Coral Cup without jumping adequately, presumbly he had schooled in the interim since his last runs. FWIW Kitzbuhel jumped horribly and unseated on his last start before today.March 11, 2026 at 21:22 #1758731Poor HMS Seahorse
rip xxxVF x
March 12, 2026 at 11:14 #1758804He ran an such a brave race he didnt deserve to lose his life yesterday.😪
Not in the best of form last two races it did make me wonder why he was running.RIP beautiful sole HMS Seahorse 🌹
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...March 12, 2026 at 19:32 #1759142F U not great formlines but he was running a good race and had got round well in big field up to that point so imho no one to blame at all as he was up there at the last.
Its a shame but if you want jump racing you get fatalities simple as that .March 12, 2026 at 19:46 #1759147“Its a shame but if you want jump racing you get fatalities simple as that .”
Absolutely correct, Helcat.
Horses die every day. So do cats. So do dogs. So do people.
I’m honestly fed up with people who say that racing should be be banned because of equine fatalities. At least racehorses are bred for a purpose.
March 12, 2026 at 22:09 #1759204I wonder sometimes about the 100 to 1 shots that clearly are not racehorses you see on here from time to time , seems bit pointless keep sending them round then wondering why the worst happens , but HMS Seahorse a long long way from that .
The amount of horses going round at Cheltenham and the amount of fallers to me shows a high level of training .
There is more chance of a NH horse going onto a new role in retirement than some of these slower flat horses too .
Latenightpass Iam sure will go onto a useful role for many years , there loads of positives .
One who is an issue is Pied Piper , two crashing falls in a row , but very decent horse , he’s one of the tricky ones but that’s racing .March 13, 2026 at 08:34 #1759253“One who is an issue is Pied Piper , two crashing falls in a row , but very decent horse ”
Came 2nd in a Ces, should have been tried as a staying hurdler 2 seasons ago IMO.

And so do livestock. 30 million animals were killed in the UK in 2024* for halal and kosher slaughter without being stunned first. In other words, they had their throats slit and bled to death in agony.
No doubt the usual social media channels will be all ablaze today after Envoi Allen. But I might take the likes the League Against Cruel Sports and Animal Rebellion more seriously if they said something about that industrial scale cruelty to animals instead of making cheap shots about a racehorse that has died via an accident.

March 13, 2026 at 18:19 #1759686Well said … I so agree over halal and Kosher …
PS RSPCA are generally useless at intervening early enough with obvious lack of care issues to so many horses/ponies/donkeys …
March 13, 2026 at 18:21 #1759688Yes, I agree lochniver. I don’t hold the RSPCA in particularly high regard but at least it has highlighted the issue of halal/kosher slaughter. It should be banned.

Yes, I remember it. I backed him that day and on a few other occasions. I hadn’t seen his name for a while and wasn’t sure if he was still in training.
It is sad to see it end this way for him. Condolences to his connections.
