I don’t know if this link will work but it shows just how horrible the incident with 33 RECITE A PRAYER and 3 GALVIN was … they are both very lucky to be alive. Plus the people there. This was why I was so horrified when I saw they were galloping down the inside … Aintree really do need to re-think this part of the course.
PS Link seems to be working …

We always used the stand by the last fence on the inside of the track at Kelso but now have to stand much further back, and there’s far less chance of anything like this happening at Kelso. Horrifying. Thank goodness the horses and spectators were ok

Well the video has been taken down – sorry if that broke the rules.

The video showed footage of the 2 loose horses galloping down the inside, slamming on the brakes as they saw the dead end. RECITE A PRAYER crashes into a concreate barrier and almost collides with a woman who must have been very shocked … GALVIN crashes into the fence and struggles to extract his legs … they are TWO very lucky horses to escape with a fractured eye socket but they must have damaged muscles and have bruising etc … I assume they were caught at the point … Aintree I’m sure will be looking at this aspect very carefully. I have never seen horses turn so violently off the course and crash through the barriers to get where they did but it just shows it can happen.

Aintree would have had a lot bigger bad news story on their hands had either of those two horses been killed there.

Why were there people stood in that place anyway? Who were they – general public or staff?

I’ll leave my comments there before I say something else!

The video is still there. Not surprised Mullins said that Aintree needs to look at this. Those horses were very lucky, as were the people. As QF asks “who were they and why were they there?”.

The woman said she was with her hubsand and they were having a day out. So why were they in the infield?

The question is not why the people were in the infield. Furthermore, I’d like to find out what the concrete barriers were needed for. It’s not that it happened for the first time when horses ran loose through the infield.

I think we need answers to both questions. Given the supposed increased security, what were these people doing so close to the course? The concrete barriers are a total mystery. I can’t imagine what purpose they served.
