High: Kyprios in the Gold Cup. Great ride from Moore and fine effort by the horse to come back better than ever after injury.
Low: Buick’s dreadful ride on King’s Gambit.
June 22, 2024 at 19:57 #1699678Just looked back at the Buick ride. I wouldn’t quite put it in the “dreadful” category. Some degree of pilot error and a little unlucky maybe. I would associate dreadful with something that looked like utter incompetence or a non trier.

June 22, 2024 at 20:11 #1699681Highs, Auguste Rodin, Billy Loughnane scoring twice and Megan Nicholls looking absolutely lovely on Friday.
Lows, Ed Chamberlain’s inane drivel and my total inability to find a single winner. The things I want most in life are the things that I can't win.
June 22, 2024 at 20:18 #1699682Also great to see the King attending and mingling with people considering prior to his mother’s death he had little or no interest in this meeting plus he is undergoing treatment for cancer.

June 22, 2024 at 20:25 #1699684High: Kyprios
Low: Charlie Appleby horses not putting up much of a challengeJune 22, 2024 at 20:28 #1699685High: I enjoyed the five days and finished slightly ahead on the punting, mainly due to a good opening day.
Low: 7 races a day and a 6.15pm finish made for some long days. Are all the “lockdown era” races necessary? I also wonder if all the Group 1s are up to standard. The two sprints were poor.
June 22, 2024 at 20:53 #1699688High: Kyprios, Rosallion and Haatem plus Ryan becoming the winning most active jockey at Royal Ascot
Low: 12 handicaps and six 2yo old races from a total of 35 races makes this rather a Glorious Goodwood meeting. The good old days are long gone with Stoutey and Godolphin not able to rediscover their past Royal Ascot form, Joseph OB and Johnnie G also much in the underachiever role at the season’s top meeting meeting, no real jockey personality riding apart from Ryan. Just accepting the inevitable changes the 21st century brings to a rather traditional, but still unique sport.
As Cork already mentioned I don’t think the Group 1s were up to the usual Royal Ascot standard.Forgot to add Bedtime Story to the Highs
June 23, 2024 at 08:35 #1699713I thought it was a great five days, the two 2 year old fillies of O’Brien’s were the high light for me.
Along with the SJP and Coronation and finally as many pointed out Kyprios regaining his crown

Saeed Bin Suroor trained more winners than him. Perhaps he can expect a few more horses from the Sheikh?
June 23, 2024 at 12:25 #1699733High – Quality engagements with jockeys, trainers and connections
Low – Usual oversize fields. Cut the big ones by 20-25% and reintroduce the “Heath Day” on the Monday, adding a day
