Adrian Heskin has lost his retainer with Barry Connell owned horses. Quite a significant job in jumps racing. Connell has a lot of good horses. Surprised about this move. Most of his horses are with Alan Fleming who seems to flatter to deceive as a trainer in my opinion. He has a few horses with the shark hanlon, a couple with Ted Walsh, mags Mullins (martello tower), and probably one or two more somewhere else.
Horses like:
Martello tower
foxrock
velvet maker
ballychorus
chain gang
champagne James
gwencily berbas
the tullow tank
blue hell
bridgets pet
Tully east
Volvalien
Marakoush
Balbir du mathanAll either rated over 140 or making promising starts to careers. Would be a nice job to get, although if I were Connell id be more concerned about the trainer than the jockey
April 6, 2016 at 07:12 #1240994Heskin was arguably culpable for the two Ballychorus bellyflops at the last in two valuable handicap chases this season. Perhaps those mistakes put his position in jeopardy.
I like Heskin and think he will mature into one of the top jockeys. It’s a shame when an owner takes on a young jockey but isn’t prepared to accept the inevitable errors of a rider still learning their craft. It must be hard to have patience when you are paying the bills and buying the horses, but I think Connell had unrealistic expectations here.
Hopefully Heskin keeps getting plenty of rides.
April 6, 2016 at 07:41 #1240998Heskin not much of an improvement on Mullins. Connell developing a shocking record of picking jockeys. Perhaps third time lucky but you wouldn’t bank on it.
April 6, 2016 at 08:11 #1241000When Mullins was with Connell he was a bit raw and inexperienced. I think he is a brilliant jockey now. I also didn’t see anything wrong with Heskin. I understand about his falls from ballychorus but ruby walsh would be long out of a job if Mullins, Ricci, wylie or o Leary had the same approach as Connell. Look maybe they just had a falling out or maybe both just fancy a change, but i don’t think it’s Haskins fault that Fleming’s horses are so bad this last few months

April 7, 2016 at 10:08 #1241163I must say I’m quite surprised. Not a huge fan of O Regan, could think of a few id prefer ahead of him but lets see how it works out
