Do you reckon Don’t Push It got the 3m yesterday, Fists?

    8)

Hard to say really. For me he obviously didn’t go there 100% fit ,,,he was doing it so easily and came there cruising but when the pressure was applied up front he had all the hallmarks of a horse who blew up. He had gone too far out for anyone to say bar Alan Berry.

Andy Stewart’s not had the best of fortnights (by his standards), but I just wanted to make a couple of points. Of all the ‘high profile’ NH owners, he’s the one who impresses me most, and I was pleased to hear his wholehearted support of Sam Thomas after today’s race. Seems a genuinely good man, and I wouldn’t begrudge him any future success. Scandalous to think he only got his first, and only, festival winner this year!

Secondly, he can take a lot from today’s race. The day Big Bucks puts in a clean round of jumping, he will be a serious threat to 99% of the best staying chasers. Ridiculously talented, just still not a natural jumper yet. And My Will was absolutely terrific after such a long lay off, a horse I always really liked

If he’d thought about where to place his horses better then it might not have been only his 2nd winner. The way they treated Le Roi Miguel was scandlous.

Great race – a proper Hennessy.

Oh dear, poor Sam Thomas. He’d have trouble staying on a rocking horse at the moment. Good jockey, his luck will change.

Another solid effort from Madison Du Berlais. As connections said, he seems to have been around forever, yet he’s only seven and, quite possibly, still improving.

Air Force One stayed the trip well on sticky ground. I have reservations about him being a Gold Cup horse, though. Not too sure Cheltenham is his track, but if connections do target the race I’d like to see them make more use of him.

I convinced he’s a clone of Mr Mulligan. A big chestnut with a big white face, who can really clout the odd fence. I’d love too see connections employ similar tactics on this chap. He’s a solid ew candidate for the King George, but a race like the Lexus would suit and a potential clash with last years Gold Cup third, Neptune Collanges, would tell us just how good he is.

It was always going to be a tough year for Albertas Run. You won’t find many better looking horses in training and I hope he bounces back this season because he’s better than what we saw today – he never looked happy.

Well done, Tom Scudamore. A very, very talented jockey. He doesn’t deserve the burden of being compared to his dad – let him create his own history. He’s got the potential and time to match, even surpass, his dad’s achievements. A nice, level-headed guy, too.

I don’t know about his mounts, but T Scudamore is definitely still improving.

Who does Francome think he’s kidding with the comparison nonsense?

I feel AFO is much better when ridden from the front on good ground whilst going right handed! – so it was a fantastic effort in the circumstances.

Having watched the race again, i am more than happy with the run Air Force One gave me during the race yesterday, really did jump well until the last 2 fences. The aspect i like most about his jumping, is the fact that he gets over them and gets away from them quickly. He was behind horses yesterday, but when it came to jumping a fence, he was over and away at the other side, so quickly, and actually passed horses simply because of his jumping ability and the quickness he possesses at the other side.

I too did think that John Francome’s comments about Tom Scudamore being as good as his dad, are a little premature. Scudamore junior did well yesterday, but his father was a great jockey.

The best National trial (Aintree) by far was High Chimes and fortunately I had a speculative £2 at 320’s on BF before the race.

He shaped like a marathon stayer as I predicted, outpaced on the hometurn and then staying on powerfully at the end when other had cried enough. He doesn’t want too many hard races before Aintree and I am worried about leaving his season behind at Chepstow if that is the intended route, but I will be on nonetheless. If he wins the Welsh National that will be his chance of winning at Aintree almost gone, I would think, given that his mark will increase significantly.

I too was taken by his performance but at one fence down the back Gareth he made a complete bollocks of it and it took him out his stride costing him precious momentum, energy and a good few lengths…….that may just have made the difference between winning and losing, There is little doubt he is improving and if he sorts out these lapses in concentration this could be one very good horse,,,,,,,,,,hi jumping still scares me though.
