To repeat: proving himself capable of giving weight in top handicaps rising 11 would put a final coat of gloss on an already Duluxian career

He has nothing left to prove at this stage, Drone. Winning a record number of King George’s would outdo 10 coats of handicap gloss, imo. Don’t see anything in the horses profile to suggest as an 11 year old changing his optimum race interval preparation will be of any benefit. He’s already shown he’s vulnerable coming back within a month, adding a 26 furlong slog round Newbury less than 4 weeks before an attempt at history just doesn’t add up to me.

    Hopefully it wont happen.

"Pure greed"? Kindly engage your brain before spouting such disparaging nonsense.

The owner has stated he wants to run him in 4-5 races this season as it’s his last.

I think he should, I don’t care if he wins and I doubt the owner does, he probably wants to watch him cause in a few different races cause it’ll be the last chance he gets.

I know for fact Clive Smith wants to run him in the Hennessy. Paul Nicholls isn’t keen on it.

You’d have thought their main priority would be to make history in the King George, and surpass Desert Orchid’s 4 King George wins, and making Kauto go down in history as one of THE greatest of all time.

Jeopardising that would be for pure greed.

He already is one of the greatest of all time. I’m worried about my King george bet too but I know Clive Smith wants him to have a go at the top class Handicap.

Whatever they decide, all credit to them for being so sporting. I’ll ‘watch’ it, as usual from the end of the living room with my eyes and ears covered, only emerging periodically to the sound of ‘and they’re all over that one safely’. Oh for the days when I could get a bit of help from the baccy as well.

I beg to differ. A fifth KG would of course be marvellous but it wouldn’t add a deal more prestige than the four he already has. IMO winning a top handicap will be more difficult and should he succeed he certainly wouldn’t have anything left to prove.

    The most melodious of swansongs

Like I say I’d favour the RP Chase but a tilt at the Hennessy windmill would be admirable

    I like handicaps! :)

If he runs in the Hennessy he is straightforward lay for me.

It’s not the weight on his back but giving away the best part of 2 stone to most of the field.

Rising 11 he certainly isn’t getting better and IMO isn’t as good as he was. The task won’t prove easy in likely soft ground and may bottom him out for the King George.

I think Clive would Like that Timeform 200 rating, the sort he could virtually ONLY get in a Handicap off this Stature

Great for the sport if it happened, i remember Dessie winning by 8l off 185 in the RP Chase

IF Neptune Collonges is on the form which twice saw him 7-8 lengths behind Denman in the 08/09 Gold Cups he will be very tough to beat and think he’s better value than last seasons novices that are trading at half the price.

Thats some ‘IF’ though, isnt it?? Do horses come back from those injuries with all their old talent still intact? Very rarely unfortunately. War of Attrition, Looks Like Trouble, Kicking King, just a few that spring to mind.

…Dream Alliance, Welsh National…remember we’re talking stem cell treatment here which is, as a treatment, is still in it’s infancy.

Easy to say now but Weird Al should be in with a big shout, dead heated with Little Josh and Weird Al carried 7 more on his back, think he has the talent to run a huge race out the handicap.

I reckon if Neptune runs, Neptune wins. Paul Nicholls will only run him if he has a chance of winning and he’s weighted to get the job done.

    Is Neptune Collonges out?

Even with Little Josh’s form with Weird Al and Pandoramas form with Weapons Amnesty I still think he’s the only horse who could touch an on form Denman off his weight.

Look how he beat off What A Fiend last year and what that horse has won since. There’s only a number of top top class horses and Denman and Neptune are the only 2 in that race.

Denman for me. He is built to carry weight, he’s class and he just loves this race. Pandorama, 2nd. Diamond Harry, 3rd.

It would be another massive effort from Denman to win this race again.

I do feel there is potentially more class and ability in this field in comparison to recent years, which is why i feel Denman may be beat this time round.

Weird Al looks a very interesting and attractive betting proposition for the race, for a horse who generally, should go very, very well, off a low weight.

I’d love to see another Denman victory, and i will be cheering him on.

Little star here is off for the King George along with my ante post :?

I don’t see any other way to sort this but by taking on Denman.
