I know some people do not care about numbers – but 1,000 winners is a great achievement.
When I first started watching racing properly back in the late 80s/early 90s, the idea of a female jockey riding 1,000 winners would have been unthinkable.
There were some good female jockeys before Hayley but she raised the bar. No doubt Hollie Doyle and Saffie Osborne will get there as well and so will others in the future. But Hayley was the trailblazer.
Well done to her.

November 21, 2023 at 22:13 #1671412Congrats to Hayley on an incredible achievement – she truly has been a trailblazer for British female jockeys with a number of firsts in her career (including the first British female to ride 100 winners in a season).
I believe she is now just 21 short of having 1000 British winners, which she should be breaking in due course.
Also nice that this milestone was achieved with the trainer/owner combination that she won her 1st G1 race on with Dream Ahead in the July Cup.
November 21, 2023 at 22:56 #1671414A superb achievement, well done Hayley.
We are not quite yet at the stage where achievements by female jockeys are not worthy of special remark, but Turner has helped bring that day a lot closer.
November 22, 2023 at 00:46 #1671423Suggestion, start this thread on 999 or even 990 next time, we could have a build up, a drum roll even.
I’ll see if I can spot the next one. Quite often they get it wrong. She could still be on 999 don’t y’know. That would be good, because then you could go back to my original suggestion….November 22, 2023 at 08:12 #1671427Here is the race and interview afterwards:

November 23, 2023 at 05:40 #1671479Bloody hell that was a long time ago.
When a male jockey does the same is it mentioned at 5, 8, 9, hundred winners?
Are that jockey’s indiscretions mentioned at each milestone. Frankie’s excesses as a young man haven’t accompanied his tour at every turn and won’t be trawled up in the jungle until he’s required to “play his joker” in the heartstring stakes.
This is a fantastic achievement for the jockey, any jockey.
Hayley has been winning frequently from sole rides and puts her experience in the saddle to good effect. Well done and one of a small string of jockeys you can back confident of getting a run for your money.
“ We are not quite yet at the stage where achievements by female jockeys are not worthy of special remark”.
Yep, I think we are!November 23, 2023 at 08:20 #1671484“Nice that this milestone was achieved with the trainer/owner combination that she won her 1st G1 race on with Dream Ahead”.
That was quite fitting.
If only breeders would make more use of Dream Ahead. He has sired Group 1 winners. More importantly, he is descended from the Godolphin Arabian. There are not many stallions from that sire line left.
His best son is Dream of Dreams – and he was gelded!
November 23, 2023 at 09:34 #1671486Good to see Rob Wright acknowledge her achievement too with an article in the Times yesterday about it.
November 23, 2023 at 11:52 #1671492I’m pleased she came out of retirement as she is a more than decent jockey
also when shes on the tv as a presenter or doing an interview comes across as very down to earth
No excuses needed to post a photo…
