After the recent debate regarding the correct Wetherby race distances, and the subsequent findings and race distance corrections, quite frankly I wasn’t looking forward to the return of the jumps meetings at Haydock Park.

First order of the day was to calculate the going allowance, which I had at -0.46s/f (good to soft with soft patches).

Straight away I see a new chase distance of 2m110y, and looking at the race time, I see I can use the original RP standard time for the 2m chase trip of 240.0s, as the 2m and 2m110y times look to be the same, possibly the distance of 2m was re-measured.

Now I hit a major problem regarding the advertised distance for the 3m hurdle, reverse engineering the winning time, my calculations say the actual distance they raced over was 2m7f, I could be wrong here and the horses in the race had improved 25lbs <!– s:shock: –><!– s:shock: –>

I’ve lost count of the number of courses that Haydock has now, there used to separate flat hurdle and chase courses, but now they all seem to be interchangeable maybe that’s the problem with race distances.

They have no excuses now, the drainage work on the jumps courses is now complete.

You now when something is wrong, when it takes you about

    2 hours

to come up some figures that look about right.

On the BHA sight today’s Haydock Park distances described as:

    Rails: Race distances are increased, as a result of rail configuration as follows: Race 1 Abt 2m: add 36yds Race 2 3m abt 5f: add 72 yds. Race 3 2m abt 4f: add 45yds Race 4 Abt 2m: add 50yds Race 5 Abt 3m: add 72yds Races 6 & 7 3m abt 1f: no change.

Make/believe of that what you will.

The hurdles races today are being run on the Flat course

No doubt the jockeys have been told that if they go wide on the bend and end up in the car park, they have to give way to the ambulance :D
