I was just updating my speed figures for Haydock Park’s last meeting and I noticed that they have shortened their 7f30y distance to 7f and their 1m30y to 1m.
The 7f distance must have changed from their last meeting on the 7th May and the mile from the meeting on 19th May, did anybody on the forum notice this?
I have just emailed Haydock Racecourse to confirm this.
The RP standard Time for 7f is now 85.30s from 87.0s.
The RP standard time for 1m is now 99.50s from 100.50sMay 21, 2011 at 09:59 #356382trying to get some clarification as well.
If both 7f and 8f starts have been shortened by 30y, shouldn’t the 1m standard time be reduced by more than 1 sec?
May 21, 2011 at 10:15 #356387I noticed this yesterday on Racing Post racecards and the info is repeated today…….
GOING: 5f & 6f – GOOD TO FIRM (Good in places; 8.6); 7f & further – GOOD; 7.7) (Races over 5f & 6f on new inner home straight;
races over 7f & further on old outer home straight; actual race distances: 6f ,7f & 13yds,1m & 13yds, 1m 3f & 213yds)
. (White cloud, light showers)

If they have changed the distances by 30yds this will make a massive difference to somebody’s speed figures.
May 21, 2011 at 10:59 #356400Here’s the announcement from the Racing Admin website:
HAYDOCK PARK NEW FLAT STARTS
First Published April 28th, 2011Following a report from the Clerk of the Course and Inspector of Courses, the following new starts have been agreed, with immediate effect. The Safety Factors are unaltered.
Flat Start Safety Factor
abt 7f 14 Replaces abt 7f (7f abt 30yds) start
abt 1m 17 Replaces abt 1m (8f abt 30yds) startThe figures 14 and 17 refer to the maximum fields allowed.
Although it’s not stated, I presume the reason relates to the realignment of the bend on the home turn. If you look at the aeriel picture on the Racing Post course map for Haydock, you can get an idea of the layout. Personally, I wouldn’t trust anything given out by Haydock – with a choice of home straights and a choice of bends, I’d assume that the race distances on the round course will vary from meeting to meeting. Good luck trying to create worthwhile speed figures!

May 21, 2011 at 15:03 #356453Slightly off topic, when I check my standard times I use my "times.xls" sheet (16400 races) to check the RP standard times
ref column H
.
Just use the filters to select any course or distance.
