Entries out, but no market…..
https://www.racingpost.com/racecards/23/haydock/2020-02-15/748643
I’ll certainly be waiting for that market, but a few jump out.
As usual with this race, the key factor is that’s is ran after the weights are framed for Aintree.
With that in mind, my early fancies would be…..
Lake View Lad
Lord Du MesnilBoth tick a lot of boxes for me here, and I think there’s a chance that they’ll prefer this to Cheltenham as a Trial for Lake View, while Lord Du Mesnil may still have a bit up his cuff off of 147.
Geronimo ran a solid race here earlier this month, and can’t be discounted, while it’s noticeable that Steely Addition has had a careful campaign, though I do have the suspicion that it’s a quiet campaign with Ayr in mind.
Other entries to catch the eye, and obviously big players would be….
Elegant Escape
One For Arthur
Ramses De Teille
Yala Enki…buts it’s a race where I’ll be unlikely to dive in early.
January 30, 2020 at 22:04 #1481355Definitely One For Arthur here for me Bob.
I’ll probably bet him when the firms price it up.
January 30, 2020 at 23:08 #1481366Definitely a player mate, and I haven’t forgotten his run at Aintree last year.
Trainer likes this race, but she might target something like the “Ivan Straker” as well.
February 3, 2020 at 00:08 #1481815In case you missed it mate, Lucinda Russell confirmed today that Kelso is the main target, and he’ll only come here if the ground isn’t suitable at Kelso.
February 3, 2020 at 12:23 #1481849Truckers Lodge for me but hell be single figures so I’ll look for another at bigger odds when the market opens
February 3, 2020 at 22:47 #1481906Market…..
Nothing drawing me in early.
February 11, 2020 at 11:34 #1482626Dodged a bullet here, as I was getting very keen on Lake View Lad Before his withdrawal.
With a real chance that Kelso could be abandoned, then I’ll probably chance the 14’s on One For Arthur.
Edit
Kelso abandons, so I’ll take a chance.
One For Arthur 14’s
February 13, 2020 at 11:23 #1482804Just 11 declared with 2 of the antepost favourites coming out. Also it seems that Ballyoptic will go to Ascot as his first preference. The ground will be bottomless so I would guess that only 4 or 5 will complete the course. In those circumstances I think a lowly weighted horse might just cause an upset. POBBLES BAY is a slow but steady horse and he will carry 10 stone ( 1lb overweight). I think there is a good chance he will be ridden to pick up ‘place’ money and I have backed him at 20/1 for an each way bet.
February 13, 2020 at 11:41 #1482805Good sign for my ramses de teille albert bartlett bet that he wasnt declared here
Means he is at least a likely runner
February 14, 2020 at 00:17 #1482853Happy that Arthur was declared, but Geronimo also lines up.
I’ll definitely be betting him as well, and I’ll hopefully beat the 11’s.
February 15, 2020 at 11:01 #1482935I bet Yala Enki off a cliff while at Venetia Williams’ yard and it’s difficult to forget his win in this a couple years ago. He’s just high enough in the weights and I’m inclined to look elsewhere for something potentially better treated. Same sentiments apply to Elegant Escape. The question is whether to play Aintree now in the event they hack up today!
Steely Edition looks an interesting one. Ticks a couple statistical boxes (age, weight) but is taking a step into the unknown trip wise. I’m happy to take a chance at a very attractive each way price.
It’s a very good lineup this year, even without Ballyoptic.
February 15, 2020 at 11:09 #1482936Lord Du Mesnil was an early fancy of mine for Aintree, but I’ve just cooled on him a little for Aintree. I think this is a race where he can defy his rise in the Handicap though, and I’ve bet him 13-2.
I liked Smooth Stepper as an interesting outside for The Eider, so I will have to cover him here ew. I did 30-1 with 4 places.
February 15, 2020 at 11:58 #1482950This reminds me of the race 2 years ago , could be a real horse breaker , part of me wishes EE was a non runner but I’ve played him and Geronimo , I’m surprised OFA is running , can’t see him liking the ground , VTC did you have a look at Thomson,s horse running later ….unexposed …he doesn’t normally fly a kite so it’s interesting he,s upped it so much in class
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
February 15, 2020 at 12:22 #1482960I’ve gone for Lord du Mensil at 6/1. I liked the way he has been winning his races. I think there is still room for improvement. My old pal Vintage Clouds has been slammed by the handicapper to a career high mark. Conditions should suit him, but I’m afraid this is too much weight.
Lord du Mensil 6/1
February 15, 2020 at 13:21 #1482968HDLG, I’ll definitely be betting him at that price, I’ll never leave a runner from the yard alone at that price.
February 15, 2020 at 13:24 #1482969Peter, Yala Enki looks so dangerous here, but can’t justify backing three in this.
I didn’t even get the 11’s on Geronimo, never mind beat it FFS, but still hopeful of this pair.
Geronimo 9’s
One For Arthur 14’sFebruary 15, 2020 at 13:27 #1482970I think The Two Amigos could run a nice race here. He was going well last year when he fell, so hoping he can bounce back.
