She won on soft plenty of times , you,ve got to hope something comes up but maybe she has taken that kick away from her , either way CH is absolute banker now
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
December 4, 2022 at 14:44 #1625804Agree with you, she was never travelling.
I've stumbled on the side of twelve misty mountains
I've walked and I crawled on six crooked highwaysDecember 4, 2022 at 14:46 #1625806As the race went on I somehow got the feeling she wasn’t going to win, the first 3 pulled right away from the rest so I don’t think she has underperformed as much as the commentators were seeming to suggest.
The winner was a surprise but Klassical Dream won the Supreme in the past so is not short of speed and stays further to boot so it wasn’t a surprise especially considering how well he settled at the start.
CH will shorten for sure but there could (and likely will) still be a lot of changes between now and Cheltenham with a lot of water to pass under the bridge – a setback for her for sure but not the be all end all being beating in December.
December 4, 2022 at 14:50 #1625808I hope all those who reckon she was “never travelling” cleaned up in-running because she touched some very short prices!

December 4, 2022 at 15:16 #1625817So I got honeysuckle beat and still didn’t win

Least I backed klassical dream e/w
December 4, 2022 at 15:25 #1625818I don’t think Honeysuckle underperformed there at all. She missed the 3rd or 4th last which cost her a bit but overall I still feel that was a better performance than her last 2 in this race.
She had only beaten Ronald Pump the last 2 years and he’d have been beaten a distance today.Honeysuckle has been a great mare but all this talk all the time that she has loads left in the tank is nonsense. Had she loads in the tank when she beat Benie des Dieux by 1/2 length?
The fact is, great mare and all that she is, she’s benefitted greatly from one of the weakest champion hurdle eras in recent memory.
Constitution will beat her a distance and it wouldn’t matter whether she was 6,7,8 or 9yo.
December 4, 2022 at 16:12 #1625824Agree LD73. You can’t win them all, she was bound to be beaten one day keep racing and today was that day. I wouldn’t write her off just yet. And alot can change between now and Cheltenham with all contenders

December 4, 2022 at 16:36 #1625832Agree that Honeysuckle has been a beneficiary of the generous mares allowance. It is not her fault but it is a joke.
I did want her to win today after everything the De Bromhead family have been through. Maybe she could win at Leopardstown but it is very difficult to see her winning at Cheltenham with a certain Constitution Hill around. Unless they decide there is a better chance going down the Mares Hurdle route.
December 4, 2022 at 16:41 #1625834I dont have a problem with the mares allowance. Most mares aren’t as good as Honeysuckle has been.
December 4, 2022 at 16:51 #1625836“it is a joke.”
It absolutely is, but it’s the elephant in the room for many and has been for years.
Many regard Dawn Run as an all-time great because she’s the only one ever to win both the Champion Hurdle and the Cheltenham Gold Cup.
Does she win either without the gender allowance?
I don’t think so.
Night Nurse was different gear to her over hurdles and in finishing runner up to Little Owl he did more than she did in getting up to beat serial non-stayer Wayward Lad.
Even on this thread today I’m reading she’s a marvellous mare and even that she hasn’t underperformed today when she’s got beat by two horses both giving her 7lb!
You literally could not make it up.
Not only her but Epatante too – winners of three Champion Hurdles in a shocking era and receiving 7lb.
But of course that doesn’t fit the modern, every year a new “GOAT” narrative.

Hate this game sometimes.

December 4, 2022 at 18:04 #1625845That’s a cracking stat – thanks for that.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"December 4, 2022 at 18:09 #1625846I thought she ran like she had been up all-night watching Constitution Hills career runs
she has always won this race and the opposition were no better than previous years, can’t see any excuse, really.Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
December 4, 2022 at 18:33 #1625850The race Henry really wants to win next year is the Jack de Bromhead Mares Novices’ Hurdle.
But I can’t see any proper excuses for Honeysuckle today, being not good enough is fully acceptable.
December 4, 2022 at 20:07 #1625862The mares allowance is really only effective for the average mare so any time you get a great mare with equal ability to her G1 contemporary colts/geldings be it on the flat (which happens more often) or over jumps the allowance then turns into a big advantage.
But then if you get those rare horses with a special ability then even a mares allowance isn’t enough to compensate and it could be that CH is just simply that horse – only time will tell.
