Thought they were the usual Grauniad typos Seagull, not yours.
December 8, 2006 at 15:16 #33067C’mon guys, this isn’t rocket science.
If someone claims to have paid 714k in commission and implies that if you doubled his commission he would be unlikely to be in front, then his profit is almost certainly in the sub 714k region.
December 8, 2006 at 21:18 #33068Why doesn’t he just post his daily bets on the "how much has everywon one/lost today" threads on BF forum like everybody else.
May 18, 2008 at 11:51 #7832Just interested to know what the reaction is of small punters who play the Scoop6, when they see Findlay’s name amongst the winners on a regular basis. Can you really compete with someone who by his own admission seems to make up most of the pool himself? I know it is easy to belittle the occasional winners who don’t appear to know one end of a horse from another but personally I would far sooner they win than someone who is not exactly down to their last penny.
May 18, 2008 at 12:14 #164168The betting ring is a jungle and it is the survival of the fittest.
I say good luck to Harry and his ilk – if they are prepared to put up the money then all power to them.
Remember their contributions do boost the pool which means, when there is a "small" winner the amount they win can be boosted.
I don’t personally begrudge anyone winning be it a big player or a "lucky" one line punter.
May 18, 2008 at 12:17 #164170Well, I’ve read his account of how he plays it, and I’ve read Nevison’s account about how he approaches it.
I’m not certain either of them are making money from it. Findlay’s had big returns before but I’m not sure whether he or Nevison are showing a profit from their attempts.
May 18, 2008 at 12:22 #164171I like Harry Findlay. I like his style.
I particularly admire his pro odds on betting stance. A man after my own heart – though considerably wealthier.

Gambling Only Pays When You're Winning

May 18, 2008 at 12:36 #164174Harry Findlay claims to make money from the Scoop6, and I sincerely doubt that he would continue to participate in it if he didn’t.
I don’t have a problem with Findlay et al scooping the jackpot, as I can’t see who loses. Certainly not the man himself, nor the Tote for whom big pools can only be a good thing in terms of publicity and take-out. It isn’t even detrimental to any other winners, as much of the money that they are picking up is in fact Findlay’s! He claims he & his associates got 5/2 their money yesterday for a pick up of £413,189- that would mean they contributed about £120,000 (~18%) of the pool. The fact that they had 7 of 11 winning tickets is merely a testament to his skills as a punter.
Of course it’s nice to see the Agnes Haddocks of this world scoop big now and again- it makes a great story and shows there’s hope for us all. However, the reality is the more you put in the more likely you are to take out.
May 18, 2008 at 18:20 #164226Good luck to him, he takes the big risk he deserves it when he wins.
And he puts money back in to the sport.November 22, 2008 at 19:41 #9398I’ve long been an observer of Harry the Dog, from the first time I heard him shouting home Chicita Banana at Shelbourne dogs at something like 5s on. He had a column in the Post for a while where he gave his best bets, which were typically shorties, many of whom got chinned. Fast forward to today when he has oodles of horses in training and regulary buys horses for hundreds of thousands of pounds.
This morning he’s telling us he’s lumping on the Binocular/Kauto double at around 4/7. After years of trying I concluded that these kinds of short-priced horses weren’t profitable and that I needed to look beyond the obvious in order to turn a profit. So how does Harry do it? My theory is that racing must just be a hobby and his real profits come from elsewhere- there’s no way he’s making millions backing the Kuato Stars of this world….November 22, 2008 at 19:47 #191363

He’s a big player in football markets, isn’t he?
To make the doubling up of 4/11 and 1/9 shots pay your stakes are going to have to be fairly substantial; I can’t imagine that all is well in the Findlay household this afternoon.
As I have said on another thread, is there a chance that Nicholls is having a slight problem with his horses at the moment? He’s had a number of short-priced horses beaten in the last seven days and there’s no way that Kauto Star (might well have won, but it was far from certain) and Poquelin should have struggled the way they did this afternoon.

Nicholls horses are running well but I agree with you in as much as they don’t seem to be absolutely flying as they usually are.

I think having 2 of the winning tickets of the scoop6 may have made the day a little more bearable.
November 22, 2008 at 22:12 #191394Cue me looking a right plonker…..well done Harry!
November 22, 2008 at 22:27 #191396its a good point though carvills…
if there is the nerve to go for these frighteningly short prices, is it an easier market to play in the long term? Majority of punters naturally avoid because its not a lot of fun really
is it underexploited?

I’m not sure even getting the best part of 900k back today would make Findlay a significant winner on balance in this Scoop 6 rollover sequence…
I agree with your original thoughts and can’t work out who is the unliklier winner based on their betting patterns – Harry Findlay with his 1-6 shots or Steve Palmer with his monkeys on correct score pickouts on Premier League football!
