Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!January 25, 2018 at 21:10 #1339052Project Bluebook @ 33’s NRNB for the Martin Pipe
January 27, 2018 at 14:05 #1339419Well that’s the Frodon bet up the shi*ter! Glad I backed today just in case!
January 27, 2018 at 18:45 #1339486Think that Mohaayed has a squeak in the County Hurdle @ 33’s NRNB
Ran a strange race on his first run this year, running all the way round the inside on the swampy ground. Next run came second giving 7 lbs to Irish Roe, could well of won that with a bit more effort.
The last day ran 3rd off ( 135 ) to Buveur D’air (169 ) & The New One ( 165 ) btn 6 lb off level weights. The winner won with a fair bit to spare, but the interesting thing that caught the eye was Skelton looking through his legs after the last fence to see how far he was ahead of Chesterfield ( 146 )
Given a revised mark of 139 seems workable.
January 28, 2018 at 22:48 #1339659Came 7th in it last year botchy off 135 so up 4lb…
If you’re interested in that you may be interested in the one I fancy for it who finished a place in front in 6th…
Ivanovich Gorbatov…absolutely smashed on the day into 5/1 favourite…looks like they’re trying like mad to get his mark down this season and so far he’s down to 147 so 3lb lower so 7lb better off with yours.
Am expecting another no show this weekend to try and get another lb or two off!
They usually say the triumph is a weak race but going back to the one IG won the 2nd, 3rd and 4th were no mugs…Apples Jade, Footpad and Let’s Dance!
25/1 with 365…
January 29, 2018 at 07:56 #1339686I like where you are coming from Zamorston, going to get on @ 25’s
January 29, 2018 at 08:41 #1339687GL with IG Zam, did him last year E/W to win any race and came 5th
Good case for him, we’ll settle for a dead heat eh?
January 31, 2018 at 21:25 #1340038Tricky,tricky,tricky gettin involved for decent money antipost in these events. Punts i’ve had though are;
Movewiththetimes – Close Bros @21s
Act of Valour @42s, Mercenaire @40s – Fred Winter
Mohayeed @34s, Campeador @27s – County
Forest Bihan @36s – Grand AnnualNo more than a score staked on each selection so far as i could of done it all in cold blood come festival time.
February 7, 2018 at 11:22 #1341123Only really reading this thread today, but i see Barter’s Hill is entered this weekend. Whilst on his previous form his mark is decent, i would say its risky getting involved in him until we know his level after his injury. It’s an interesting campaign Pauling is undertaking with him going the handicap route iMO.
If he was to bolt up this weekend, he would get a very hefty rise i am sure, as the handicapper would assume ability retained.
Movewiththetimes to me, isnt quite as good over 2m5…i presume if the new top weight is 145 he will be ok weight wise.
Act of Valor is a very good shout for FW i think. Better ground will suit to a tee.
Mohayeed has been a horse i’ve backed a good few times, another good shout i think on better ground.
Forest Bihan could be interesting tooDex correctly pointed out, Pauling has hit a bit of form..

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!February 7, 2018 at 15:55 #1341144How is Ben Pauling in bad form? He’s had 4 winners from 4 runners in the past 2 days.
February 7, 2018 at 23:22 #1341204Yeah it’s good news for the Pauling yard to see some winners and for Barters Hill because he said he would only run him once he sees the yards horses running well again!
I’ve had a little interest for Saturday but can’t help feeling if he wins they will go for the stayers hurdle instead of the handicap route?
I’ve no doubt in my mind Pauling is capable of bringing him back after such a long time off in tip top shape and fully ready to do himself justice…
Still feel this season the Coral Cup would be his best chance off his current mark?
For all he looked an out and out stayer at times, I don’t think he’s short of pace either…he’s got some cracking scalps on his cv…horses that are now excelling at two miles…
Altior, Buveur D’air, Politologue, North Hill Harvey, Brain Power…all been beaten by him earlier in their careers, so he’s no slouch!
Other good news from the last few days…another non effort from Ivanovich Gorbatov has seen him drop another 2lb now down to 145…5lb lower than last season…bet365 must have noticed as he’s been clipped into 20’s!
February 8, 2018 at 00:44 #1341209Few more to add to my list…..
Ballyandy – Not really a horse who’s caught my eye that much, but I just have a hunch that he could be better over fences that we’ve seen so far. His jumping hasn’t been the best, but that can be worked on, and although a Novice, I just wonder if he could pop up in The Plate?
Cause of Causes – He needs no introduction, coming here off of a Festival Three Timer. Hard to oppose him in The Cross Country, but with the stable also having Tiger Roll for that race, I just wonder whether they’ll be tempted with The Coral Cup. Winning four different races at The Festival would be some feat.
Pairofbrowneyes – I thought this horse would have achieved more by now, but never quite delivered the big one. I’ve not bet him that often, but I usually give him a look, and I believe the ability is there. Knows his way round here, and could go for something like The Grand Annual on much better terms. The switch to Willie Mullins won’t do too much harm either, having quietly made the switch at the start of the year.
Peregrine Run – He’s something of a forgotten horse, but assuming all is well with him, and he hasn’t had a setback, it could just be that he’s been kept for the better spring ground. Thought he was worth a mention for The JLT, and may be significant that that was the only Novice Chase he got an entry for, but I also think he’s perfect for The Close Bros Novices, as I think he’s way ahead of his mark. The 33’s NRNB, and 50’s here is fairly tempting. He didn’t quite deliver the goods in The Coral Cup, but his summer fencing campaign last year was very encouraging, and looks one to consider.
February 8, 2018 at 01:11 #1341213Le Breuil in the Coral Cup is going to be a big one for me (will stick back him in the Martin Pipe if he runs there, just reckon it’ll be the Coral), I’ve backed this horse ever since it won me a bit of cash at Newbury last season and the ground has been completely against him this term, genuinely believe this horse is was ahead of its mark and has a massive shout at the festival.
Bennie Des Dieux (or however it’s spelt) in the Close Brothers Handicap for the Mullins/Ricci combo, though this one could go to the Mares Hurdle or the Ryanair
February 8, 2018 at 09:34 #1341227Total Recall for the Coral Cup? If he’s going to Aintree Mullin’s wont want him running over fences to keep his mark down. He won at the Dublin Festival where he ran too keenly and made all off a very low Hurdles mark. He won with 3 horses within 4 lengths of him so maybe he wont be hammered on his hurdles mark? If he’s not then The Coral Cup could be a nice prep for The National.
February 8, 2018 at 09:59 #1341229The Irish handicapper raised total recall 20 pounds for winning the leopardstown race. That must be unprecedented. And unfair too. I know his hurdle mark was much lower than his chase mark but it’s not fair to raise him 20 pounds for a 3 length win. 8/10 would have been fair
February 8, 2018 at 11:57 #1341240Seems unfair but rest assured Phil Smith will add a few more lb too.
February 8, 2018 at 18:52 #1341292Middle Of March – Vaniteux does indeed look well enough handicapped to run a decent race at this years festival
