Chloed,
Get another job if you don’t like it. Its not Russia you know.
March 4, 2008 at 21:01 #148429barney got out of that 30 years ago mate, happily retired now
March 4, 2008 at 21:05 #148431why you so bitter then?
Live long and prosper!
March 4, 2008 at 21:14 #148436not bitter, just speaking up for shop staff, who are paid rubbish wages and have to take rubbish from disgruntled punters, its always the small punters that create the most trouble and they take it out on staff..
I know i am" old school" and life has changed beyond belief in the local bookies since my day, but no one needs to go to work and go thru that crap.March 4, 2008 at 23:19 #148477cant excuse this behaviour but if im honest i did find the story amusing
as for bookies staff, my experience tell me that at least 10% are rude and do not offer a good customer service. my local is a lovely lady but the one round the corner has an old bag who slams your money down and refuses to settle bets some times as she gets herself flustered.
i understand they put up with a lot but so do staff everywhere and they are still expected to be polite etc.
March 5, 2008 at 07:34 #148500I would venture to suggest that even if staff in the shop are not polite it does not justify being rude back – two wrongs do not make a right.
If the shop staff are rude then vote with your feet and go elsewhere.
March 5, 2008 at 08:33 #148507That’s a disgrace that he got off with a suspended sentence. It’s hardly a moment of madness when he has time to think about such actions on his way home to get a sledgehammer.
So now your a Psychiatrist
March 5, 2008 at 08:34 #148508Would have banged him up personally. How people get away with such behaviour defies belief……
Wonder what your attitude would be if your son, brother had a significant psychiatric background but the judge said "So What" and threw him in jail.
March 5, 2008 at 08:43 #148509I’m astounded. No physical history of mental illness mentioned the article and proof of pre-meditation, yet he gets away with a suspended sentence because he supposedly has "an unusually frail personality". Poor lamb.
The Judge’s attitude just goes to show how much all Irish hate the bookies!
I’m astounded your astounded since when did newspapers report the whole story about anything?
You can bet your life the defense would have doctors reports. A judge can not by law just take someones word for it and would have to be presented with a medical report……if he wasn’t the prosecution would immediately complain when it was mentioned in court.
March 5, 2008 at 08:47 #148510Glad no one was hurt but some comments on here would be better suited to Adolf Hitler’s gestapo Germany…..pathetic

Wonder what your attitude would be if your son/brother was the victim of such an attack from a person with a "significant psychiatric background"
Everybody has an excuse for their crimes nowadays. Every criminal has doctors, dentists, psychiatrists, character witnesses nowadays to testify as to why they were not responsible for their own actions.
Suspended sentences are the second biggest joke in the justice system, behind concurrent sentences. Yet judges still consider a suspended sentence a legimate punishment. The days when a blot on your record (which is ALL a suspended sentence is) means something is long gone.
At this stage, I don’t care about rehabilitation of criminals. I just want these people off the streets, away from me and my wife and child. I don’t give a flying **** if they rot in jail for the rest of their lives.
I think this thread should be moved to the Lounge at this stage because it is moving towards social commentary, which was inevitable I suppose.
March 5, 2008 at 10:02 #148542fof, crime is supposed to be punished, nutters like this need keeping off our streets which are more dangerous these days because the loony liberals don’t think crime should be punished
if i was on a sunny beach miles away my attitude may be different, if i came into your house and caused 27k worth of damage with a hammer your attitude might be different
nowt to do with nazi germany, it’s law and order and crime and punishment

David makes a valid point I wouldn’t be happy but who do you point the finger at? The patient or the doctors who said he was menatlly disturbed yet allowed to walk the streets?. I don’t know what the conditions of his suspended sentence were but if he was realeased without having to undergo medical supervision I would be surprised
I don’t find why being on a sunny beach would change a person’s idea of what’s right or wong mate. You seem to be under the impression I haven’t come across people like the offender.
Small chain of shops one of which was at Parkead Cross Glasgow 1989 very close to Labrokes who had a Rock Steady security guard full time.
Junkies every day, guys attacking the staff with a 4 x 2 some crazy guy thought he was John Wayne only his gun was a toy space gun…….total fruit cakes mate………….ask any Scottish lads on here they will tell you what the place is like………don’t talk to me about Sunny beaches clouding my judgement please….. like the defendant you know sweet fanny adams about me. Stop being a sweeitie wife and get back to talking racing Mrs Berry Just joking mate stuff this thread not worth the hassle.
March 6, 2008 at 10:13 #148728lol. always the £2-£5 punters causing all the problems.
Anyone putting £50+ on usually has self respect and would be embarrassed to show if he cared that his donkey lost.
March 6, 2008 at 10:56 #148737Now if he had a few quid he could have had a toke before he went and none of this would happen…………They should introduce free hash for violent criminals and they would reduce the crime rate by 99%
