Jo Davis racing on Facebook
This is the shittiest, hardest post to write, we lost dear Betsy today at Wincanton.
Betsy was the most opinionated, sassy girl, who drove us all nuts but by god we all adored her.
I had just turned to some of her owners to say I don’t think she’s going to make it as a racehorse and then it happened.
Nothing ever prepares you for the pain of losing one of your horses, we are so small that everyone of them is like family.
I’m so sorry for my amazing staff who are all devastated, @hollyannabella93 who turned her out so beautifully, @blubxll who rode her most days and the brilliant guys in the yard.
And so sorry for her owners who are just the best people.
We try to control every aspect of their health and wellbeing bur when they are on the track, there’s nothing we can do.
I would like to say a massive thank you to the vets and their helpers @wincantonraces
You were so kind and professional, Betsy was seen to very quickly and sympatheticaly.I have to admit to having serious thoughts as to whether I can keep doing this job.
Rest in peace dear Betsy, you will be very missed.

January 15, 2026 at 22:58 #1750590How sad. Sounds as if, after that race they weren’t going to persevere with her as a racehorse. Awful as any fatality is, it saddens me so much when it’s one of the smaller yards. I don’t know how they have the mental strength to carry on. RIP and condolences to Jo and the syndicate.
January 16, 2026 at 00:38 #1750597This story brought tears to my eyes, after the sad week we have experienced the loss of so many horses and the loss of Grey Aquila (Betsy) who was adored by all who cared for her is a hard one to take at the moment.
Love and thoughts to all associated with this lovely girl.
RIP Grey Aquila (Betsy) 🌷
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...January 16, 2026 at 01:32 #1750599What a moving post by Jo Davis. You can really feel the raw emotion, and it is a good example of how people in the game really do care about the horses.
Grey Aquila was so much more than a set of moderate form figures. She was a beautiful animal with a lot of personality, and who was clearly well-loved. It is a great shame that she did not get a chance to go on and have a life beyond racing.
RIP Grey Aquila
January 16, 2026 at 06:06 #1750605Very sad tale , I think the poor horse was clearly not going to make it as a racehorse after 2 runs , 300 to 1 in that field is all you need to know . A sad ending .
