Moore didnt sound too sure about 14f for Continuous when asked and neither am I.
August 23, 2023 at 15:19 #1660582Of course nathan, moore was the only one who had the sense to know that they where going far too quick, could have ran that race 9 different ways and ittl end with continuous winning it, he did that, very, very easily IMO

August 23, 2023 at 15:22 #1660584I dont disagree mike, but it remains anyway, gregory wont be infront of him if they ran in the st leger against each other
August 23, 2023 at 15:22 #1660585If the rain does come arrest will win the leger imo
Can’t back him antepost though or at least until a week or so before and gamble on the forecast being correct
Gregory was galloping on at the end but I’m not sure he actually has the class for the leger
August 23, 2023 at 15:23 #1660586I wouldn’t take this race’s form as a guide to any of the horses ability.
Continuous was the only horse to go anywhere near the correct pace, which makes a massive difference. As a Leger trial I’d write it off.
Value Is EverythingAugust 23, 2023 at 15:23 #1660587I want rain for the St Leger and plenty of it ;o)
August 23, 2023 at 15:26 #1660588I’d agree ginger
Ruby was spot on in saying making a slow horse go that fast early means they essentially have no chance
He will have been out of his comfort zone in the first 2 furlong and consequently had nothing left for the finish
The other 2 pace horses finished absolutely miles back
The 2 held up have breezed past them
Just tells us how the race was run not so much about the relative ability of the horses
August 23, 2023 at 15:29 #1660589Put that down to another average tactical ride from Dettori…we tend to see more of them from him in recent years following and this off the back of two at Glorious Goodwood.
They always say the quickest way to get a horse with stamina beat is to go too fast early on thinking that is the best way to make use of his stamina. Gregory to be fair lasted a lot longer than I though he would and must be a pretty decent horse – St Leger looks the obvious race for him where hopefully he would be given a more sensible ride.
Ryan again more tactically astute – interesting to note the horse has an entry for both versions of the Champion Stakes and St Leger.
August 23, 2023 at 15:32 #1660592Even the second horse made his ground a lot sooner than the winner.
…And as you say, Gregory did far better than the other two pace horses. Therefore – although I said forget the race actually – Continuous is a lot worse than the apparent form suggests…

Tower Of London being aimed at the Melbourne Cup apparently.

And Gregory is far better than the apparent form suggests.”That would be my reading of the race as well
If gregory had gone 12/1+ for the leger I’d have been vaguely interested but given the queen’s vase form has been let down by the second and he’s only 6/1 couldn’t touch him
August 23, 2023 at 16:34 #1660640Cheers Mike

August 23, 2023 at 20:37 #1660671Don’t know what Frankie was thinking, pushing the horse out like that after missing the kick.

I don’t watch or listen to this stuff but, reading all that, I wonder what Walsh would have made of Lester Piggott’s ride on Teenoso in the 1984 King George.
Teenoso, who was always “in the van(guard)” when winning The Derby in 1983 in a bog, wasn’t exactly speedy himself, yet so attritional was the pace Piggott set early that His Honour, Snow Princess’s pacemaker, couldn’t even get to the front until Swinley Bottom and was headed by Piggott again soon thereafter.
Piggott turned that race into an absolute WAR and Teenoso was “last man standing” at the death.
It’s VERY easy to say what jockeys did wrong AFTER they got beat and maybe Piggott would have been slated by the Walshes of the day had Teenoso got beat.
But he didn’t get beat – he won.
So no one said a word – in fact Piggott was rightly lauded for a genius ride.
And that’s my point.

August 24, 2023 at 11:17 #1660752Can’t see how continuous was not just bar far the best horse in the race. He reminds of Duke of marmalade and improving rapidly. Gregory flattered in the vase and I’d be against him in the leger. Continuous could well go well in the breeders Cup turf. Can’t see why he wouldn’t stay the leger trip but I bow to Ryan’s knowledge of the horse. Could be a top 4 year old IMHO.
