82 entries i believe a bit down on recent numbers but should be ok if none are veto’d by the judging panel.

Surely any "veto’s" should wait until the final decs stage? I mean a horse could get an entry who say hasn’t placed in 3 miles plus as of Jan 31st, but in the space of 2 months; that horse could very easily place or even win a staying chase, thus making it eligible? I fear that’s what’s kept the numbers so low.

As I understand the report last year about the national, all entries must comply with the 4th or better over 3 miles or further chase by this stage or be eliminated. This could be why the entries are low. Be very interested to see if I understood it right.
January 31, 2012 at 21:28 #389226They have until the 20th of march to be placed in a three mile chase.
February 1, 2012 at 09:14 #389260They have until the 20th of march to be placed in a three mile chase.
Appears you are correct

However in my opinion any horse who has not fulfilled this condition already and who owners want them to run has very little time to comply. This might mean finding a weak race where the are few runners or more likely where they can outclass their opponents rather than truely stay.
Such horses in my opinion will be treated like non stayers.
February 1, 2012 at 12:21 #389287Here we go. Was going to paste them in but formatting looked all over the place.

February 1, 2012 at 12:51 #389294What you think OA? Personally I think it’s a very uninspiring list of entries, but I’m sure I’ll change my mind in the coming weeks.
I knew my original main fancies, Fabalu, and Triggerman weren’t going, but I’m very happy to see Seabass in there. Very happy. Already on at 33’s, I hope they go for it. No doubt they won’t.
Blazing Tempo would be another of intereset, but I’ll have a proper look tonight, and dig a few more out once the weights are published.February 1, 2012 at 13:05 #389296I see Do It For Dalkey is not entered, always looked an ideal type to me. Anyone know where he’s going next? Missed Lucinda on "Get On" this morning.
Value Is EverythingFebruary 1, 2012 at 13:21 #389300Some interesting dark ones leap out of there:
Roulez Cool and The Package.
I see Fair Along in there though.
I wouldn’t take 10/1 about him getting through the first circuit.February 1, 2012 at 13:33 #389302Skippers Brig,Ballyfitz andMerigo are three notable ones missing

Thank xxx for that!
Does not jump well enough.
Value Is EverythingFebruary 1, 2012 at 15:05 #389313If
Synchronised
does run and that will depend on his Gold Cup effort then its 11-10 for him, that puts
Calgary Bay
on a very winnable 11-1,
Ballabriggs
on 11-2
Junior
with 10-9 and the horse who jumps off the page
Sunnyhill Boy
on an incredible 10-0 still 2lb out of the handicap! Watch Uncle Tom Segal put him up at 40/1 now!
February 1, 2012 at 15:29 #389319Well pre-entries I was a huge Vic Venturi fan and also really like The Midnight Club and Chicago Grey. Will go through now and see what’s what.
February 1, 2012 at 15:36 #389321So Seabass can qualify because of a third in a poor 3 mile chase at Thurles, whereas 2001 winner Red Marauder would not have been allowed to line up ?
This is typical BHA – one run short of a handicap.
