July 24, 2008 at 16:24 #174604Two courses not mentioned by Endevour host Group 1 races viz Doncaster and Haydock.
July 24, 2008 at 17:01 #174610I wouldn’t class Epsom as a Gr1 course as such. The racing there is pretty standard fair apart from 2 days a year. The others would regularly hold good racing.
July 24, 2008 at 17:14 #174612I would agree with that, is there an definitive list of Grade One Courses, I always thought Ayr was one, as it holds the Gold Cup and Scottish National, or is it just up to individual opinion.
July 24, 2008 at 17:43 #174615Depends how you grade it – there´s only Ascot, Newbury and Haydock who stage Group 1/Grade 1 races under both codes, but Newmarket, Goodwood etc. are as good in terms of facilities as those three.
Would say – Haydock, Newbury, Ascot, Newmarket, Goodwood and Cheltenham.
July 24, 2008 at 18:46 #174619Shouldn’t Sandown also be on that list, as it hosts the Eclipse and Tingle Creek
July 24, 2008 at 19:36 #174625Southwell!
July 24, 2008 at 21:45 #174635Chester???
July 24, 2008 at 22:49 #174643The first list is the correct, official list of Grade one tracks in the UK (Sandown is on the list, btw).
I would agree that there is equally good quality racing to be seen at some of the other tracks mentioned.
July 25, 2008 at 07:30 #174664….and some crap racing at some of the Grade ones.
In my opinion, a course shouldn’t be graded on the level of it’s best racing but on it’s worse.

Can you give me a link to show where this list is official – it’s not on the BH site

July 25, 2008 at 09:39 #174691Grade One racecourses are surely ones that host the Classics.
Therefore, there are four Grade One racecourses in Britain, namely: Chaddesley Corbett, Dunthrop, Larkhill and Whitwell-on-the-Hill.
July 25, 2008 at 13:07 #174770I think the grades of racecourses (if they still have them) relate to the funding they get rather than the quality of racing there.

TowcesterJuly 25, 2008 at 21:29 #174830Sorry, I don’t have a link, but I did obtain the info from the RP paper, years ago.
If I need to refresh the poor old memory, I check with the RP or Sporting Life website.Surprised the BHA don’t display the details. Poor show, imo.
