“The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) has reciprocated the IHRB sanction and Elliott will now miss the Cheltenham Festival which starts on 16 March and the Grand National Festival next month.
However, the BHA added that if horses are transferred directly to other licensed trainers before Elliott’s suspension starts on 9 March then they will be able to run at both meetings”.
My understanding of that is move your horse by next Tuesday or yours is a non runner.
March 5, 2021 at 20:55 #1527326Those saying Byrnes was worse, and Elliott didn’t “murder anyone”…
Byrnes didn’t make national and international news, get Dene Stansall airtime, or indeed be found guilty of anything other than negligence for leaving the horse unattended in the yard. He also had to wait two years for a hearing, which the IHRB took into account when they set the sentence. They didn’t charge him with bringing horse racing into disrepute.
As for murder, purely from the point of view of racing’s reputation, it would have been less damaging to the sport. And it would have been outside IHRB jurisdiction as he’d be in jail.
March 5, 2021 at 20:55 #1527327But if a licensed trainer takes over the Elliott stable for six months the horses can stay at Cullentra and go to the festivals.
March 5, 2021 at 21:05 #1527329I not read/heard that anywhere so far patriot. Is it likely by next Tuesday and is it allowed? Or is it just what you is thinking?
March 5, 2021 at 21:06 #1527330It will be Mike I should think. Doubt you can ban a plot of land!

March 5, 2021 at 21:09 #1527331That will be all sorted by now, don’t worry about that. They have had nearly a week.
March 5, 2021 at 21:26 #1527335Irish Field reckons Denise Foster will take over training Elliott’s horses (no idea. Other than her nickname is “sneezy”, for reasons that are unclear, I know nothing about her). Elliott himself is not banned from the yard. So all is as it was apart from Elliott not credited and not allowed on course. I never subscribed to the “ban for life” agenda but this really is a whitewash and will be seen as such by our enemies. The perception that the “racing elite” sticks together and protects its own has never been more clearly demonstrated. They state that this is part of a “concerted attack” on Elliott, thereby portraying him as the victim. If this had been followed by something along the lines of “but we have thoroughly investigated the other very serious allegations that are widespread on social media and found them to be without foundation – and here are our findings”, that would be OK but they didn’t. They have supposedly been “investigating” all day. Doesn’t take that long to decide the penalty for a photo which the accused himself has confirmed is genuine. As so often, no appreciation of the wider picture, even in Ireland, let alone globally, and focusing only on their own limited experience of the industry and desire to appease their most valued supporters. Disaster for NH racing and, for all the “move on” posts (which are actually feeding the fire), we have not seen the end of this.
March 5, 2021 at 21:26 #1527336Gordon is paying a mortgage on the yard and has upgraded it into a world class training facility since it going into his name
March 5, 2021 at 21:29 #1527337Agreed Tonge, great post.

March 5, 2021 at 21:30 #1527338I refer you to post #1527250 made on this very topic before evening broke
March 5, 2021 at 21:33 #1527339Headlines writing themselves. “Racing catches cold with Sneezy”.

March 5, 2021 at 21:41 #1527340Mike the BHA said that if horses are transferred to another licensed trainer before March 9 they can run at Cheltenham and Aintree. The licensed trainer can be at Cullentra.
March 5, 2021 at 21:45 #1527341I can just imagine the inevitable Michael O Leary interview on ITV in 10 days time or so.
March 5, 2021 at 22:50 #1527345Basically he has been given the absolute minimum punishment that the IHRB think will satisfy public opinion.
I have little doubt that a licensed trainer will be brought in to “run” the yard whilst Mr Elliott is there.
It is yet another gaffe by the racing industry , and will alienate yet more of the general public from the sport.
It will also prompt the media to delve even further into racings “murkier” areas.
In my opinion it will all end in tears for the sport , I am afraid.March 5, 2021 at 22:54 #1527346I think the ban is a fair enough penalty. However, the absence of a fine and the fact that Elliott can still be present in the yard is less satisfactory.
I recognise he has suffered financial penalty through the loss of two contracts and at least 8 horses but a fine was surely appropriate.
March 5, 2021 at 23:21 #1527352Okay, the Committee came to the conclusion that Mr. Elliott:
– demonstrates complete absence of respect for the horse
– has brought Racing into disrepute
– is heedless to the fact that one of his horses had died
– is treating the dead animal as an object of amusement
– fails to maintain a degree of respect
– fails to protect the integrity of an animal no matter if dead or alive
– had the photograph taken though he knew it could become public
– offered no credible explanation to the Committeeand he gets away with this kindergarten ban…. What else is there to be done in order to receive a full one-year or even a two-year ban????
March 5, 2021 at 23:40 #1527353Didn’t he get fined 15k? Not much but still.
Also, he lives in the yard, literally bang in it, so for them to ban him i would imagine it’s near impossible?
