March 5, 2021 at 19:14 #1527287The 4-day ban being the same as Russell got on appeal for punching a live horse (after initially receiving a mere fine). On that basis 6m + 6m for posing on a dead one was as much as the IHRB was ever gonna do.
March 5, 2021 at 19:22 #1527289If footballers would get banned four days for arguing with each other, there might quite a few football-free weekends.
March 5, 2021 at 19:25 #1527291I have to say, I despair at that outcome….
RIP Morgan

March 5, 2021 at 19:27 #1527294Lenient. No danger of an appeal with that sentence.
Don’t see the point of suspending 6 months of the ban. And no fine is puzzling.
A full 12 month ban and a 30 grand fine would have been fairer.
March 5, 2021 at 19:45 #1527299Tatling, as far as I know, he doesn’t own the yard. I’ve read that in a few places this week, but it’s not something I could claim to be a definite.
March 5, 2021 at 19:46 #1527301This means everybody will be moving horses, unless they don’t want them to run in the next six months.
March 5, 2021 at 19:55 #1527304That’s the way I read it as well Ruby, at least in the UK.
No mention in the BHA statement of what happens if someone takes over from Elliott.
March 5, 2021 at 19:55 #1527305Forget about the fine. Basically he cannot have a horse run in his name for 6 months.Four of which he would not have runners anyway or very few. After that, everything is back to normal.
March 5, 2021 at 19:58 #1527309Thanks Jeff.
Surely its odds-on someone just taking over the license, for such a short period.

March 5, 2021 at 20:04 #1527312Guess Gordon will be taking a trip or two to France in order to buy some new horses and the stable will stay under the care of someone familiar with the facilities and his training methods. Then from September on, it will be business as usual. Missing Cheltenham, Aintree, Punchestown and Galway won’t hurt the owners too much and everybody will be ready to restart in six months time.
A complete full year ban would have been something different.March 5, 2021 at 20:09 #1527313Are the 4 day bans for that discussion after the line?
Look what the Elliott situation has started…..
March 5, 2021 at 20:25 #1527319Before anyone goes off on one and I may well be in the minority, but just sit back for a moment and look what he as done.
Someone as taken a photo of him sat on a dead horse. I am not condoning it in any form but he’s hardly killed anyone.
have we not all made mistakes in life, some worse than others and maybe not got caught or punished for it.
He as just lost his job for at least 6 months and the hardship that may bring him and his staff for a stupid mistake.
Far worse goes on everyday in the world and we turn a blind eye rightly or wrongly.
He admitted the mistake, he’s taking his punishment and I beleive it’s time to move on. Today’s news is tomorrows chip paper.
By the way I was horrified and as shocked as everyone else but I don’t believe banning someone for life for a mistake his correct.March 5, 2021 at 20:29 #1527320A little bit lenient, in reality it is only a 3 month ban as how many horses would he have run over the summer anyway?
Probably the full year would have been more appropriate but given previous cases where trainers have only got a couple of months for far worse transgressions, neglect etc, then I understand why they have come to this decision.
Let him serve his time and move on.

No chance the likes of Gigginstown and the Morans will miss the spring festivals man. They will stay in Elliotts yard and just change the Trainers name for 6 months.
