Jac, what I like about her is that she is always very passionate about the sport. Pre-race, post-race, off the track, in the winners enclosure, in her podcast…. truly a great Racing journalist.
March 4, 2021 at 15:43 #1527077Tony McCoy would say her opinion is irrelevant as she hasn’t rode any winners, if I recall correctly.

March 4, 2021 at 15:58 #1527078If the captioned photo was then shared with a WhatsApp or Snapchat group I would be surprised if Michael O’Leary were not included in it. I can’t see Elliot using the corpse of a Gigginstown horse to make his idea of an amusing picture without giving O’Leary a chance to join in the fun.
March 4, 2021 at 16:07 #1527080Correct TTC. I lost a lot of respect for McCoy after that outburst. Aside from being a totally stupid comment, it also revealed a nasty side to his character. I doubt he would have got quite so angry if a man had made the same remarks.
Lydia Hislop is also right to call out Davy Russell for his conduct towards Bruce Millington. It might have escaped his attention but we have a free press. He does not need to agree with Millington but to refuse to speak to him was petty and childish in the extreme.
March 4, 2021 at 16:40 #1527085Agreed CAS on all points.

March 4, 2021 at 17:18 #1527088Agreed Ruby and Lydia’s also passionate about cheering her horses home too. I was just a few feet away from her and some of her team when Henrythenavigator beat New Approach by a nose in the 2000 Guineas. She can give it some welly and that article was written with such passion she deserves some sort of award for it.
Have never liked McCoy, fair weather presenter and big head IMO.
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...March 4, 2021 at 17:22 #1527089Even though the thread is about Gordon Elliott, I share the same thoughts about AP.
March 4, 2021 at 17:40 #1527091Yes Ruby.. McCoy will probably give ITV’s Royal Ascot’s coverage a swerve unless he’s offered an all inclusive deal and a table at the Panoramic Restaurant in the Royal Enclosure.
As CAS said that aside about Lydia did show a nasty streak to his character.Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...March 4, 2021 at 18:09 #1527095Completely agree Cork about Russell. It was disappointing to see so many people lionising him for what was really a petulant act onnLuck on Sunday.
Let’s see what happens tomorrow although there are no guarantees there will be a result straight away.
March 4, 2021 at 18:24 #1527097Maybe this may be some good that could come of something terrible. The arrogant, insular, nature of those inside the sport could sort their shitty attitudes out.

March 4, 2021 at 19:31 #1527102I remember watching a cheltenham preview night a few years back , both AP and Ruby were on it and they hadn’t realised there mike’s were on as the host started ….I’ll be honest great jockeys but as people I find both too arrogant , although I don’t always agree with Mick Fitz i think he,s a better man than both …his bio was def funnier second only to Ginger McCains , I still kick myself for not going to ayr racecourse the night Ginger was doing a book signing
March 4, 2021 at 20:23 #1527109If a punishment is dished out tomorrow what is everyone hoping for?
Personally id like to see a 3-6 months ban and a big fine. I believe in second chances although my respect for the man is gone. Anytime i see his name or hear it i will forever remember that awful picture.
March 4, 2021 at 20:37 #1527111Yep good article by Lydia especially nailing the reasons why this particular incident sparked the near universal response that it did.
Personally, i think it really matters who took the photo.
So do I. Particularly if a yard employee. Because it speaks about workplace culture. It has been taken quite close up, head on, not a sneaked shot. So whoever took it felt quite comfortable taking a photo of the boss of that workplace in that position. They knew the boss was not going to leap off the horse saying “good grief stop, delete that, what are you doing? Jeez, what am I doing? Ah, here, let’s get back to work”. They knew he would either think it was top bantz, or not really mind.
What was the man whose elbow is in shot thinking? “Savage craic lads, my turn next”? “Meh, yiz big kids, stop dicking about and let’s just go and have a cuppa before the deadstock lorry comes for this yoke”? “Er..I feel a bit uncomfortable about this..it’s not right acting the maggot with a dead horse…but that pair are going to think I’m a pathetic dry arse if I say anything?”
March 4, 2021 at 20:41 #1527113I reckon it will be something like a two year ban with one year suspended and a fine.
Although I sympathise with this article. And I am glad I do not have to make the decision.
March 4, 2021 at 20:53 #1527116I hope it will be a permanent lifetime ban and his total removal from horse racing. Clean, decisive and final, with the matter entirely put to bed. He probably already has the equivalent of such a ban in effect anyway.
I bear no particular malice against Mr Elliott and hope he enjoys a long and successful career outside racing.
Mike
March 4, 2021 at 21:01 #1527117A reduction condition to any ban Elliot gets is that he states who the two others were in / taking the photo.
March 4, 2021 at 21:43 #1527119Thought this needed postng on here as it’s pretty important to know in relation to the way Elliott treats his horses, epecially the horse in queston Morgan, before thinking about the way his sentence should go tomorrow.
Just heard from a friend of mine who knows a fair bit about horses who saw the picture Nathan posted on the Memorials section of Morgan running at Wexford before his demise on Gordon Elliott’s gallops and raised serious concerns about how this horse was tacked up.
This is a really disturbing observation and saddens me even more about what this poor horse went through before his death…
I’ve just looked on the Forum at the pic of Morgan.
No-one has commented on all of the crap on the horse’s head. When I see this, clearly whoever put all this crap on him has no idea of the sort of horse they’re dealing with. Even if this is or is not Morgan, it’s horrendous.
He has a grackle noseband to keep his mouth shut, a Tongue Tie to stop him fighting the bit (because of all the crap) and a Dexter Ring Bit for god’s sake! And he’s on a tight rein!
Plus the uncomfortable hood. When you see a horse with a open mouth with this lot on, you know the poor horse is suffering. Also evident from the Mullen mouthpiece on too small a ring, snaffle (type used for breaking in young horses) which is pinching his lips (you can see it) as there is no play between the small ring bit and his face. It’s giving him a ewe-neck. A 170,000Euro horse f…. up. Absolutely disgusting what horses are put through!!! You would not see this 60 years ago when horse people understood their animals – that time has clearly gone…
Someone says this photo was taken at Wexford a few days before he died, that race must have nearly killed him. If he had this f…. crap on, on the gallops, no wonder he dropped dead.
The picture of Morgan can be seen on his Memorial Thread.
Looking at that picture again the horse looks very uncomfortable and stressed.
All this would lead me to hope that Gordon Elliott will never be allowed to work within the industry again.
Harsh but necessary.
