Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned
March 1, 2021 at 11:22 #1526090Has it been revealed who took the photo and hence presumably thought it a suitable image to preserve for posterity? The “woman scorned” herself or some other jerk?
Replace the mobile phone with a rifle and it calls to mind one of those solar-topeed, khaki-clad big game hunters out in India during the Raj proudly showing off the corpse of a tiger: great day’s sport, great trophy
March 1, 2021 at 11:23 #1526092Vautour, you might say that, I couldn’t possibly …
March 1, 2021 at 11:28 #1526093Your belief that Elliott is finished Steeplechasing, surely if so he’d take plenty down with him…
Betfair (who take all the dodgey bets when horses are nobbled or enhanced,) have dropped him.
In racing’s mad dash to distance itself from this affair what corner will they find themselves in, in what is a rather circular room.March 1, 2021 at 11:36 #1526094Is it bad that I’m concerned about my bets at a time like this? Of the ante post horses I’ve backed that don’t have NRNB protection I’m sitting on the Storyteller 22/1 e/w for Stayers (now 12/1) and Grand Roi 12/1 for The Croal Cup (now 8/1). They’re with Bet365 so I can cash out; should I cash them? Will Elliots horse’s be running at the festival is the question I’m asking?
March 1, 2021 at 11:38 #1526095I’m very disappointed with Elliott who has crossed a line in a moment genuinely captured by the camera which suggests he cares less about his charges than he does about being a winning machine, something I have always had my suspicions about. And it seems there are more revelations about his personal conduct to come.
I cannot recall a previous thread on this site that has so quickly after inception reached 14 pages and which indicates the negative reaction towards horse racing once the story, including an excuse which will probably be seen as pathetic, fully registers with the wider public.
Already those who associated with and supported his yard are withdrawing and I think this will snowball. It is unlikely he will ever reach the heights heretofore present in his training career.
The Irish racing authorities have a history of not reacting in the appropriate manner to other recent disciplinary matters (e.g. the Russell case) but surely in this case they will suspend his license for at least six months?
Some of Elliott’s projected runners at all the big festivals are, therefore, likely to run in the name of somebody at his yard granted a temporary license (and Elliott must be prohibited from having any input into their training). Thus, they may not perform quite as well as expected with the effects being more prevalent the further away from the start of his ban we get. Some horses will, of course, have already been removed by their owners prior to Cheltenham (with potentially disruptive effects upon their form).
Certainly, the physical presence of the disgraced Elliott at Cheltenham, Aintree etc would only serve as an awkward reminder and embarrassing continuance of the bad publicity for racing he has brought upon the sport.
March 1, 2021 at 11:39 #1526096Having now seen the photograph, I was trying to avoid it, his explanation / excuse / whatever is absolutely risible and, putting it politely, extracting the urine.
March 1, 2021 at 11:47 #1526098I think it makes the situation even worse. A humble apology would have been vastly more appropriate rather than inventing patently untrue stories in an attempt to excuse his behaviour.

March 1, 2021 at 11:50 #1526099Gigginstown have apparently said they will continue to support Elliott.
However Cheveley Park just tweeted:
“We are truly horrified and dismayed by the photograph doing the rounds on social media however, we will await the official outcome of the investigation by the IHRB, which we trust will be swift, before making any further comment/decisions”.March 1, 2021 at 12:08 #1526100Oh well, guess Elliott’s horse of a lifetime Envoi Allen will be at Mullins or De Bromhead’s stable in a few days time…
March 1, 2021 at 12:08 #1526101Vautour, theyll be running at the fes whether its under elliots name or mullins lol
Leave them be,
March 1, 2021 at 12:16 #1526102Someone mentioned another trainer, gold cup winning, wouldn’t it be ironic and I don’t mean Alanis Morris Minor. Talk is going around of a shebeen, a cat fight and a bun in the oven. What happens in the racing game usually stays in the racing game, until now it seems.
March 1, 2021 at 12:23 #1526103Not interested in the possible Harrington connection or who gets the temporary license when Elliott gets suspended.
The stable should be investigated and inspected immediately and staff should be interviewed to establish and demonstrate that Elliots stable is ‘fit and proper’ to hold a licence.
People in this sport who can’t treat horses with respect need to be removed immediately with no second chances.
March 1, 2021 at 12:25 #1526104Gordon Elliott is a horrible little fat cat git and I have never liked him. What he was photographed doing there, confirms what an uncaring so called trainer he is. He does not care about his horses, just the money they bring him. He must have the luck of the Irish to have had so many lovely and good horses in his yard. It now looks like he is going to run poor old Tiger Roll into the ground and after all the success he has brought him.
A despicable man.March 1, 2021 at 12:31 #1526105As I said earlier, once a horse is dead it is dead and just because Elliott has been disrespectful of the dead doesn’t mean he’s treated the living badly. Indeed, anyone who’s had anything to do with thoroughbreds would probably tell you they respond far better to good treatment than they do bad. Latter resulting in temperamental horses. Therefore it is impossible for me to believe a trainer who’s got to the top of his profession mistreats his (live) horses… That’s the perspective. Mistreating the live animal is a lot more serious in my book. However I do understand what others have said, what it looks like in the wider community trumps whatever I may think…
And the statement has made things a lot worse too. Sitting on the horse without thinking of what he’s doing is frankly impossible when straddling. Must have known what he was doing unless… Has Elliott got a drink problem? That may be the next excuse.
Make no mistake this is an extremely serious issue and deserves a harsh penalty for bringing the game in to disrepute. Long suspension, he’ll be lucky to get away with 6 months if this was the uk. In Ireland is another thing given their history of underplaying rule breaking. imo Should be a year or more.
Value Is EverythingMarch 1, 2021 at 12:32 #1526106What would Jim Bolger add to this matter?
March 1, 2021 at 12:33 #1526107He has certainly run some horses into the ground. I think of poor Blow By Blow, once a champion bumper winner but by the end of his time with Elliott he was a shell of a horse.
I wonder where Elliott could have learned that approach?
