That was some Leger, anyone who says otherwise really knows little about what makes a Classic a classic.
Seville
ran the best he’s everdone and didn’t dissapoint some might say Joseph let him chase the incredible pace set by the pacemakers a little too much but i thought he rode him like he had too.The winner would have gone round again and it was no surprise he basically outstayed them,i’m happy with a 33/1 voucher for next years Gold Cup,he’s a proper Cup horse this fellow,i hope
Darren83
kept the faith!
Kieren might just have held on toBrown Panther
a little too long as he too stayed on well,
Census
ran right up to his best but will do better back at 11/2m,
Blue Bunting
wants softer ground but was always going to be tested against these colts.
Sea Moon
….Oh dear, anyone who backed him could say they were unlucky as he was staying on very well albeit too late, not Oliviers finest moment! It was still a Classic Leger ran at a Classic pace won by a class horse!
September 10, 2011 at 21:44 #370690you are a great one for commenting with the wisdom of hindsight,
Workforce
springs to mind
OMG!
I’ve put Workforce up as a selection on this forum – clear and unequivocal, and well before each race – for every 1 of his 3 wins since his debut, and to claim otherwise just illustrates the load of crap you talk. You were always the brunt of my jokes on here for as much as i am the King of Foresight, you were a master of stating the obvious…. after the event! To suggest you even put up
Workforce
for last years Derby makes me laugh, never mind well before the race!!
You were onJan Vermeer
reet! Dear oh dear! By the way who was the first person to put up
Masked Marvel
for this years St Leger back on the 08/10/10 after his debut? Crap eh?
September 11, 2011 at 09:27 #370715Fascinating day of racing today and 2 horses in particular that I will be watching.
In any other year I thuink Excelebration wwould be a champion and I expect him to win well today. It’s a real shame that Immortal Verse got injured in the week but it has made this a straightforward opportunity for Marco Botti’s colt to record a deserved Group 1. At 6-4 you won’t get rich but I will be on.
I always like to have a little ante post bet before the Arc trials and this year I have had a bit of fun with what I think might be the forgotten horse of the race St Nicholas Abbey. He has been much maligned over the last couple of years but his form this year is really good. He beat Midday fairly and squarely at Epsom in my opinion and we have since seen through Snow Fairy that that was decent form. The false pace at Ascot probably inconvenienced him more than anything else and I also think he was possibly given an ill judged ride. It will be interesting to see how he goes against the Arc favourite today and, whilst she will not be fully wound up, a decent performance will see his odds tumble. I would say he is a probable runner, is versatile with regards to ground and will be more suited to a fast run Arc than a crawled KG. At 20-1 he represents a bit of value imo.

September 11, 2011 at 12:30 #370725Those who remain loyal to their horses were handsomely rewarded with another class performance from the hugely improved
Prohibit
today at Longchamp, bring on the Abbaye and a clash with
Captain Dunne
and
Margot Did
all three put up on here as potential Group 1 winners in waiting
eh reet!
Any more of your negative remarks and i will have toProhibit
you from commenting on this thread!
Did you get it?
I shall be watching with interest today as to whetherMeandre
can follow in the footsteps of
Workforce
and win the Arc,i’ll know very shortly!
September 11, 2011 at 18:07 #370750A fine win from the second best miler in the world on ground he wouldnt have liked. Hope he takes on Frankel again but think he may go to US.
The first 4 home all previously beaten by the wonderhorse and further underlines how good that Sussex performance was. As predicted Dubawi Gold not quite a G1 horse but ran well nonetheless.
Elsewhere good luck deciding which was the best performance of the three trial winners. Sarafina probably shades it for me but will probably now just stick to my old mate Nathaniel.

Second best miler in the world? Possibly
Regarding the ground I’d say he handled it better than some, having hacked up on a similar surface at Cologne.September 11, 2011 at 20:23 #370757According to MB was only good to soft in Germany – a little bit more testing today Ithink. Good horses go on anything as this one proved today but is much better on better ground.
Will be interesting to see where he goes next. MB was adamant he would go to Ascot before the sale to Coolmore but sounded less certain today. BC would at least give him a chance of winning!

September 12, 2011 at 09:29 #370775Come on folks, enough sitting on the fence. I know TAPK is long gone but some of you folk must have one or two ear marked for the richest sprint handicap in Europe this weekend. Lets have your fancies and don’t worry about NRs, mentioning a horse won’t lose you money, betting them might.
Mine are
Dungannon
(33/1) and
Waffle
(25/1) both of whom are going to love the ground at Ayr, but I’ve got one more up my sleeve and it’s going to stay there for the next 24 hours at least. I’ll be back.
September 12, 2011 at 12:36 #370785Eton Rifles for me.
Ran very well from wrong side in last year’s Bronze Cup, he’s on same mark as his impressive win at Goodwood time before last and will love any cut in the ground.16/1 with Corals and Hills looks like a reasonable price to me.
September 12, 2011 at 17:00 #370794The cat is out of the bag now, Bet365 seem to have responded to my bet last night (joking, I doubt it).
Croisultan
is the main Irish challenger in the race this year from Liam McAteers yard and he has a better idea than most of what it takes to win the race. He had a horse finish 3rd in the Gold Cup in 2005 beaten two short heads. He sends over only his third runner in the race (hopefully) who will love soft ground and finished a good third to Bewitched and Definightly on the weekend. He can follow up quickly with a good (often better) run and I think he’s a massive price at 50/1. I urge you to seriously consider this horse! Lets just hope he crosses the water and takes his place!
September 12, 2011 at 17:07 #370795Oh yeah, andrew, Eton Rifles is a good shout but he has a penalty for that win and that’s the only reason he’s guaranteed a run.

Regal Parade
i reckon nulty, dont you miss his unique style?
Anyway i like the look ofPastoral Player
at 20/1 and if
High standing
runs the 33/1 freely available now will be half the price on Saturday as he is thrown in!
High Standing
£100 e/w 33/1 Bet365 Ayr Gold Cup
Pastoral Player
£100 e/w 20/1 William Hill.
£1600September 13, 2011 at 04:49 #370819This is a race that REALLY wants leaving alone from an antepost point of view…but where is the fun in that??
I just can’t make up my mind yet…that’s the biggest problem. I think I have got it down to about 17 horses though at the time of writing…and I keep spotting reasons to back others every time I look.
Been backing Fathsta last couple of races and I’m sure it has got a good race in it this year…as long as it comes up soft.
I’m going for a lie down…wake me up an hour before the race!!

He was a gentleman and a scholar, pity he was such a smart arse in between
September 14, 2011 at 20:43 #370966So with Champions Day just a month away we finally got some prices today and a couple have took my eye.
They have priced up Vita Nova at 6-1 for the Fillies and Mares race which is way too big for me. They have Midday and Blue Bunting as 11-4 joint favourites. Well Midday is almost certain to run in the Champion and Blue Bunting looks a very doubtful runner to me after running flat as a pancake in the Leger. After that there is Ferdoos who hasnt run since May, Crystal Capella who is well held by VN twice on the form book and Meeznah who has bounced back this year but who seems to have been revived by a step up in trip.
Vita Nova is certain to run barring injury, has very good form in the book, is versatile with regard to ground and, I think, very much still on the upgrade. She will be relatively fresh for the race and I think she stands a great chance. I wouldnt be surprised to see her go off fav on the day.
In the Champion the Cecil pair are priced up at 7’s a piece. We still don’t know what his Royal Highness The Duke of Ballydoyle has decided to do with SYT or any other horse and probably won’t for a few more weeks but I think he will end up at Ascot for this race. Even so the 7’s about Midday strikes me as too big. I think she will be much more suited to Ascot than TO is and can see her turning the tables on her stablemate. The only slight worry would be if the ground got very soft but the clerk keeps insisting that he will have the ground in the best possible condition for their big day and I am prepared to take a chance. This filly ALWAYS finishes in the money so I’ll take a bit of 7-1.
Just for a bit of fun I have trebled up VN, Midday/TO and the wonderhorse to make it a memorable day for Sir H! In the words of the Jackson 5 "I’ll Be There!!!"
"this perfect mix of poetry and destruction, this glory of rhythm, power and majesty: the undisputed champion of the world!!!"
September 15, 2011 at 16:14 #371039Joni i’m the King of Ante-Post betting but not even i have really studied Champions Day yet,i like your style but stick to the best 6f handicap in the world for now!
I shall celebrate the 20,000th view of this thread this evening with a glass of Bolly, not even TAPK got that in his legendary ‘Prophet with an F’ or ‘TAPK’s Notes’ threads and they were a goldmine of information!
My 4 against the field for this years Ayr Gold Cup are 1,High Standing
33/1, 2,
Pastoral Player
20/1, 3,
Regal Parade
25/1 and 4,
Evens and Odds
33/1. If 2 of the above dont finish in the first 5 (bookies paying 5th now) i should give in,all are more than capable of winning!
