Real shame to lose the ones we have done. Was the most wide open but stacked with quality GC in many a year.
I’ve always felt BMG over priced so will be backing him and Nassalam in each way doubles with the likes of Sine Nomine, So Scottish and Magical Zoe.
March 14, 2024 at 22:06 #1686123I had a half bet (to win half of what I usually would) ante-post bets on Galopin…
And a main bet on Fastorslow. It wasn’t that long ago but Fastorslow has drifted out quite a bit since.
I’ve decided to take a bit of a hit by laying it back at the bigger odds so he’s just a saver for me now while I’ve gone in again on Galopin to make him the main bet.
We don’t really know how Fastorslow will run now.
It was a good run against Galopin, so to have the op’ now – they must have thought they had no choice.
I guess the market will give us a big clue just how Fastorslow is going at home.
At the moment his price is a fair bit bigger than form entitles…
But if not going so well as usual (and I don’t take trainer’s words as meaning anything) he could yet drift like like a barge.
Value Is EverythingMarch 14, 2024 at 22:17 #1686124Like El Fabiolo, I consider Galopin Des Champs hugely talented but not the most natural or fluent of jumpers and his Cheltenham Chase form figures are “F1.”
But he has jumped better on his last two outings and I attribute this to Softer ground and a slower tempo.
Had the ground dried out to Good, I’d have thought him vulnerable to a strong pace, even though he won easily last year after as sketchy a round of jumping from a Cheltenham Gold Cup winner as you will ever see.
But there will be plenty of give, they’ll go a pace he will be comfortable jumping at and it may take an act of God to stop him.
And I say that holding a win only 20/1 Fastorslow bet ante-post.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"March 14, 2024 at 22:25 #1686127I think the improved (although as you say Chezza – far from perfect) jumping from GDC the last two strats was down to racing more prominently.
If it became heavy I’d have a slight worry with the increased stamina test – he might not stay.
Value Is EverythingMarch 14, 2024 at 22:46 #1686130Unfortunately my ante post bet on Shishkin is gone. Just gonna play Galopin des Champs tomorrow. Perfect conditions for him, no worries about stable form or anything else. I just think he will produce a 180+ perfomance and then nobody will come close. L’Homme Presse will get his conditions as well and I think he can be placed.
Galopin des Champs 5/4
L’Homme Presse 10/1 EWMarch 15, 2024 at 00:27 #1686151I remember watching Arkle’s first Gold Cup on a grainy TV in my Auntie Mary’s house (every irish person has an Auntie Mary and an Uncle John). Arkle truly was a folk hero and this song brings it all back; more than about Arkle, of course.
If GDC runs to form and has normal luck he will win; as Ian said, his jumping last year was very sketchy, yet he still won convincingly. But it’s the Gold Cup, the ultimate test, and very so often we get a Cool Dawn or Lord Windermere, who turns up in the form of his life and gets the run of the race. Chasing is so much more fraught than hurdling, as El Fabiolo showed.
Hoping to see a big performance from GDC, as I love a good horse. Gentlemansgame is an unknown quantity and might be the surprise packet.
An if he wins, would love to see GDC break the mould, do a Denman and carry weight in the Hennessy; just dreaming I know.March 15, 2024 at 07:30 #1686163I’ll be backing Gentlemansgame I think with the way conditions have come. Has plenty to find but he looks like he’ll be suited by them and I can see a massive improvement today. Regarding Galopin’s jumping, I don’t think he’s that bad, watched last years Gold Cup back and I sometimes think we get drawn into big bold jumpers like Bravemansgame who probably spends too long in the air. Galopin only made a couple of errors and I’ve heard it mentioned this week the Cheltenham fences don’t take as much jumping as a lot of the Irish ones do, seen plenty belt them this week and come out the other side fine. What tends to catch them out is when they land awkwardly and don’t get the landing gear out.
March 15, 2024 at 07:34 #1686164They take jumping , and he’s failed to jump them before
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
March 15, 2024 at 08:00 #1686171If Galopin Des Champs reproduces his Savills win, he’ll win this. I think Fastorslow is also probably clear of the remainder.
I’ve an ante post on Gentlemansgame at 25/1 and have added him e/w at 9/1 without the top two. He has obviously had his problems but has hige scope for improvement. He hammered I Am Maximus on chasing debut last season and that couldn’t have worked out much better. He then split Easy Game and Envoi Allen on his seasonal reappearance before beating Bravemansgame in the Charlie Hall. That is a serious level to have reached in just three starts. Another leap is required here but there is plenty of upside. Ground and trip should not be an issue. He will need a career best obviously but Mouse has a history of producing horses for Cheltenham that leave their form behind so he will do for me.
March 15, 2024 at 08:06 #1686174I am on Fastorslow and The Real Whacker antepost. I am still hopeful about the former.
I have also backed Corach Rambler at 11/1 in the without the favourite market. He should be staying on when it matters.
But I think the winner is staring us in the face. If Galopin Des Champs reproduces last year’s effort, he wins.
March 15, 2024 at 09:48 #1686205Am on Galopin.
Glad I got out of Fastorslow when I did… At least I am glad now, might not be later. He’s friendless! Breathing op’ this close to Cheltenham is worrying.Gerri is now my saver in the betting without. Better than his run against GDC, raced on the wrong part of the track. Has scope for improvement and a test of stamina should suit.
I’ve drastically reduced most of my Bravesmansgame bet in the betting without market. Because he hasn’t shown his best on heavy (Wetherby) and was a non runner in the Browns Advisory on very soft, as well as imo suspect stamina on very soft ground. Shame, because I really thought he had a good chance on good-soft (“without GDC).
Got Corach Rambler ante-post in the betting without. He’ll be running on once others have tried mixing it with the fav from 2 out. Much better value in the betting without market. Thinking about the Grand National, just hope he doesn’t have too hard a race on this ground.
Monkfish needs to improve on his chase form, but hasn’t had much racing over fences so is unexposed… And ran close to his best hurdle form – so should be able to show his form today. He stays all day and will love conditions. Done him this morning @ 19 betting without, as well as a saver on Nassalem at the same price.
Nasssalam’s Welsh National form is good, will need to improve again, but has conditions very much in his favour. I would have put him up as a main bet too, but Garry Moore’s recent form figures are similar to Hendo. That said, they’ve been outsiders so it could just be that. So want to cover him.
With all the liquidity on L’Homme Presse, I take it he’s Pricewise? Ruined the price for me.
Value Is EverythingMarch 15, 2024 at 09:52 #1686207L’Homme Presse had everything against him at Ascot.
He has everything he wants here, heavy going and a trip
I think he and possible Gerri can make GDC work for itGaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
March 15, 2024 at 10:31 #1686218The no doubt in my mind, Galopin Des Champs looks to be the winner in my opinion, but at no sort of price to bet on. So got a double on him with Dinoblue in the Mares Chase at 4/1.
Think Nassalam could run a big race hopefully for the National and with bottomless ground could get 4th.

Eliminate the negative.
Latch on to the affirmative.
Don't mess with mister in between.March 15, 2024 at 10:42 #1686223Galopin Des Champs is the most likely winner but would be great if L’Homme Presse could win for Venetia Williams. Ignore his Ascot run he has everything going for him distance ground wise and today we find out if he is Gold Cup class.
The more I know the less I understand.
March 15, 2024 at 11:29 #1686246As soon as i saw the local forecast yday eve i placed my bet on
L’Homme Presse at 12s, to win.
I’ve also put GDC in a double with
L’eau Du Sud (2.10)Best of luck to all
March 15, 2024 at 12:12 #1686270I think if Champ doesn’t win and really only a poor jump like El Fabiolo would stop that, then Bravesmangame could capitalise ob that. Fastorslow would be my lay. Nassalam is my Ew call.
