Gold Cup preparations going horrible wrong this season for himBlackbeard to conquer the World
December 28, 2022 at 14:34 #1628603Forgot to put it in here
But put up conflated a few days ago e/w at 50/1 in my D/l&P thread
Into a general 10-14/1 now
50s was an insult, much more realistic price now
December 30, 2022 at 18:58 #1628930Given there’s no native river and no real obvious front runners I imagine the gold cup will be similar to last year and it’ll be a sprint for home from the bend
I’d imagine lhomme presse may make it and conflated will be prominent but there will be no punishing gallop to make it a proper test of stamina
You’d think it’d be hard for anything else to outsprint Galopin Des Champs or A Plus Tard.
December 30, 2022 at 20:28 #1628944I reckon l,homme presse and Bravemansgame will make it a test , Galopin is going there having not beaten a GC horse and can you back APT on what you saw last time
December 30, 2022 at 20:32 #1628947I’d be hard pushed to describe the end of an extended 3m2f Chase run in significantly faster than standard time a sprint finish – they clearly went a good pace throughout back in March.
I think much may depend on the ground next March.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"December 30, 2022 at 21:38 #1628955Paul Nicholls said Bravemansgame may get the Gold Cup trip now he is a year older if the ground is decent. No “he’s the one they all have to beat’ type of enthusiasm after a King George win.
As for Mullins regarding GDC…”he’s a Gold Cup horse. He’s going for the Gold Cup, that’s it.”.
December 30, 2022 at 21:43 #1628958Regarding pace, my old mate Ahoy Senor will be there according to Lucinda, who said she was very pleased with his King George run.
December 30, 2022 at 21:48 #1628960“Galopin is going there having not beaten a GC horse”
Neither did Al Boum Photo before debut Gold Cup run. Won a listed chase at Tramore. GDC looks to have better looking credentials to me, rated 11 pounds higher at the same stage than him with potentially more to come.
December 30, 2022 at 22:56 #1628979I wonder what Ahoy Senor would have had to do to disappoint Lucinda Russell – still be approaching the second last as I write, having done severe structural damage to every fence on the Sunbury circuit?
The horse has about as much chance of winning the Cheltenham Gold Cup as I have.
In fact, he won’t win another race at all until his handicap mark is below 155.
As for Bravemansgame, never won at Cheltenham, taken out there last season, never won a race after February – would win the Denman Chase, but his next winning chance after that will be the Charlie Hall next autumn.
I’m in the mood for bold predictions this evening!

Go back over hurdles and use his engine against the aging staying hurdlers

I don’t think he’ll win the gold cup but he might win the Bowl if not too hard a race (or doesn’t run) at Cheltenham. Will be on Gastrogard from now till his summer holidays probably.
December 31, 2022 at 00:05 #1628993Big fan of bravemansgame but Nicholls will have to figure out why he loses weight in the spring
If he can stop him from being over the top by march he has a perfectly good chance of winning
But after 2 seasons of it happening I’d need more than 10s to be putting my money down on bravemansgame
Would happily back him for the next king george even if he completely flops in the gold cup and at Aintree
Think he’d have won this year’s much easier had he not had lhomme presse jumping into him at half the fences
December 31, 2022 at 00:09 #1628994There can be various reasons why some horses seem best at certain times of the year.
Bravemansgame likes Good ground so, on that basis, you might think he would be a Spring horse.
But he was a well-beaten third in the Ballymore and has disappointed twice at the Aintree Grand National meeting, the only place where Ahoy Senor seems able to finish in front of him.
Until I see otherwise, he’s an autumn horse for me.

He’s clearly very good
But id need to see him run to his best in the spring before taking the chance
What was most encouraging about the King george was that he came off the bridle turning in and came home well, previously nothing had got him off it at his best.
December 31, 2022 at 13:20 #1629064This is looking a strong GC , he,s going there having not beaten a GC horse and falling there last year ..in a terrible turners …. no thanks Mike
