Was having a scroll through Godolphin website as was looking for Yibir as cannot find him shown retired .
I appreciate some horses might not be listed yet if out of training spelling maybe , and no 2 year olds listed yet but the difference between Suroor and Appleby stable strength stood out .
Worldwide Godolphin have 26 horses aged 7 8 9 in training Suroor has 21 of them , Appleby none .
Appleby has 52 3 yo ,compared with Suroor 10 .
Appleby does seem to get the cream of the draft , those older horses Suroor has ok but mainly solid handicappers .February 27, 2024 at 10:49 #1682751Yibir last ran July 2023 winning at Sandown and I was hoping he might turn out for the Dubai World Cup Festival but as you say Helcat his name is not amongst the competitors on the website for horses set to run.
I can never understand with his beautiful breeding why they decided to geld him but at 6 years old they may possibly have sold him in Dubai as they did with Silent Film when he turned 5. Where else do their geldings go when their racing days are over? I guess not all find the alternative homes that they so deserve.
Charlie Appleby’s team are very strong wherever he places them at the at the moment as opposed to Saeed Bin Suroor being around 0-40 consecutive losses at Meydan with Mawj being retired to stud after failing to shine in the Group 1 Jebel Hatta last run after a scintillating performance against Master Of The Seas in the Breeders Cup last year.
I hope to be visiting Dalham Hall Stud again sometime before Autumn and I will certainly be asking of Yibir’s whereabouts if we haven’t seen him before that.
Like you I hope all is well with him.
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...February 27, 2024 at 11:08 #1682754Thanks Triptych be good to know . Always liked him , always bit iffy as needed luck and time way he ran .
Manabo was same intake , liked him but he must have got injured and retired although can find nothing on him .
Suroor has had some good results over the years just with that stable at moment it will be tough to get results .February 27, 2024 at 11:53 #1682760Slightly off topic but I miss the days of Ian Ferguson’s Bloomfields training operation. He used to take on some quality geldings and train them for National Hunt careers when Chief Exec at Godolphin. I feel that this should still be happening, at Coolmore too, but ended when Ferguson resigned as CEO and left Godolphin.
Maputo & Penglai Pavilion are two that spring to mind, Leoncavallo another, but there were plenty of others.
February 27, 2024 at 12:50 #1682766I liked to follow the Bloomfield horses as well TYT , Ferguson did well. In fact he had Polarisation , Qewy and Francis of Assisi over jumps , they went to Appleby after , he took them to OZ and won plenty races with them there . Polarisation won the Sydney Cup twice in two weeks , first voided and then he battered the Aussies again in re run . Qewy came out a few times and ran great in big one ,as well as his wins .
February 27, 2024 at 12:58 #1682767Had to double check my memory , Penglai Pavilion ran in both Polarisation Cup races and went out the more fancied of the two .
Appleby came out to OZ for a few years back then and absolutely cleaned up , strike rate was crazy .February 27, 2024 at 13:55 #1682784There was also Cotton Mill who ran out at the 2nd last in the 2m5f nov hurdle at Cheltenham whilst running a big race.
Parlour Games was another; won a few decent novice hurdles, including at Cheltenham, and the Challow at Newbury; was then 2nd in both Gd1 novices at the Festival and Aintree.
Qewy won the nov hurdle on Tote Gold Trophy day – ridden by AP who later announced his imminent retirement.I wish Appleby had continued with the Bloomfields jumpers…..I recall an interview where it was apparent he wouldn’t be doing just that…..My opinion of him soured after that.
February 28, 2024 at 08:01 #1682859Had look through the Bloomfield runners , Ferguson some trainer . He placed them well and strike rate superb . Not only that he passed them on in good nick . I see he had High Bridge , that was sent out to Waller in Sydney and won 3 , placed 4 th in a Metrop . I remember Waller interview after praising the shape he horse arrived at his yard in , and his speed for a jumps horse .
Another Dubai Prince , good 2 year old , ended up novice chasing but he was thought worthy of going back to Appleby but never ran. There is a video on Godolphin you tube channel from 5 years back of him doing dressage , he is a stunning horse .February 28, 2024 at 10:20 #1682871Ah yes, High Bridge, I think was a son of a 1,000 Guineas winner(Ameerat??) – and later moved to Ben Palling where he won the Gerry Feilden.
There was also Three Kingdoms, a novice chaser who beat one of Nicholls at Doncaster in the Lightning Chase…..AP might have been riding.
I thought Ferguson’s son would possibly have a few jumpers when he started training, but he doesn’t appear to have done so.
