Not much said regards their poor ascot. Are they slipping or just a blip. Also the likes of wathnan and other Saudi royals taking more big races. Could be a changing of the guard. Only 1 godolphin v coolmore battle. Time will tell. Not been convinced we need this godolphin v coolmore battle. It should be all about the horses IMHO.
June 24, 2024 at 17:42 #1699853They had 0 winners at Royal Ascot last year.
June 24, 2024 at 21:33 #1699870Check out how many horses Godolphin have in Japan , Australia chasing real prizemoney , how many in US . Huge breeding operation . Wathnan and other newcomers npt im same ballpark . Appleby has 17 in US at moment , won groupp 1 in HK , been unlucky with couple injuries to Derby hopes and won a ckassic . They had average Ascot overall but long way from going .
June 24, 2024 at 21:35 #1699871Royal Ascot is great , i love it but importance is bit overblown in terms world racing .
June 25, 2024 at 19:49 #1699948Appleby trained horses seem to have had quiet times in the big races since the beginning of last year, at least based on their previous standard.
June 25, 2024 at 20:26 #1699955Appleby has six Group 1 winners so far in 2024. But as five of those were won abroad, most people don’t notice them.
Also worth bearing in mind that his two best hopes for the Derby didn’t make it to Epsom.
June 25, 2024 at 22:09 #1699962Godolphin are a global interest and they have several horses stationed out in the US that could have easily been runners in some of the big races at Royal Ascot had they not been out there.
They farm a lot of big G1/2 turf races in the US (an area that seems to be overlooked by others UK trainers….maybe a cost issue?) and outside of the 2000g winner maybe they didn’t have enough suitable horses ready/able to run at the meeting.
Might be interesting to see what he throws at Newmarket’s July meeting/Glorious Goodwood/Ebor Festival as he may have a lot more slower maturing horses that could come to hand during the second half of the season.
Not sure it is a hit the panic button type situation just yet.

Maybe if they spread the horses out evenly, and see who did the best. It looks from the outside as if Bin Suroor is feeding off the scraps.
June 26, 2024 at 02:17 #1699979Bin Suroor has nearly every horse they have in training aged 7 up , he’s certainly down on numbers .
They spread their horses out in Japan with many different trainers . What they win on course in UK is chicken feed really . They get the horses going for Dubai , they cannot be up for 12 months some of them . Won a classic , v unlucky with Derby horses and picking up group 1s worldwide. In Broadsiding they have best 2 year old in OZ , million quid in his purse earnings with potential millions more to come . -
