Can`t say Tom is actually covering himself in glory this year though.

Not great from Tom there Softie; but to be fair – betting at big prices – that’s what can happen when the inevitable losing run happens… And everyone goes through one of those now and again no matter how good they are. ;-)

He does seem to be better over jumps than Flat.

    RSA Chase:
38 points @ 8/1 (Sportingbet) More Of That* (min 13/2)

Bit of a risk with a horse that’s had a breathing op, but with a horse this good over hurdles – worth it.

Am generally against the front runners, too many of them: Kings Palace may well be top class but can’t jump when taken on and you’ve got Next Sensation, Art Mauresque, Annacotty and Boondooma – all of which seem to run their best from the front. Plus prominent runner Cocktails At Dawn. Price too good to ignore for Boondooma who showed last time doesn’t mind mixing it. Double Ross often be up there, but showed at Ascot can run well from out the back, faster pace should suit him although didn’t go on after reappearance last term. Sound Investment looks up against it under top weight but is gradually progressive and won the Old Roan lto in good style (overpriced) usually races mid-div. Monetaire I believe his run style will suit this race better than his favourite stable companion; held up for a late run. Good record fresh and in big Cheltenham handicaps; lightly raced and probably has more improvement in him. Some don’t like the form of the Pipe yard; strike rate isn’t brillint in the last month, but most have run well in the last week. Irish Cavalier won at Exeter in good style despite most of the Curtis yard needing their reappearances. Won the 2m4f Novice handicap at the Festival, looking as game as they come. Only a six year old and more improvement to come. Buywise is one you could follow over a cliff. Always running on at the end. Trouble is gets too far back, sometimes through jumping errors (miracle hasn’t got F’s and U’s galore) sometimes through jockey error (Moloney’s like that) sometimes just outpaced. But with so many front runners they just might set the race up for Buywise today; stable in fantastic form too. John’s Spirit is a horse I love, backed him for the Old Roan, almost brought down (ignore the P). Loves Cheltenham and would probably have won this race last year but for idling in front. Wouldn’t put anyone off backing him for a place, but this looks a better race this year and appears exposed.

Wow! Never thought I’d back SS again. Even after studying the form thought I’d be for Simply Ned, but the betting is nothing like expected. :mail:

    Hi GT,

Your selections are on the ball but getting on with Betfair Sportsbook or SportingBet (and a fair few others) is well nigh impossible. How much was your margin impacted by bookmaker restrictions over the flat season – any idea?

Good question Oasis. I don’t have a Sportingbet account, waiting until others close completely to open one there. Dead on with Sportsbook, can’t get much on with them and others. Usually get on half with one and half with another and/or use Betfair. I don’t find it too bad, not yet cutting in too much. Obviously sometimes need to take a shorter price. eg Yesterday took 7/1 More Of That instead of 8’s available at the time. There’s always the Exchanges. Advice I give on here quotes the top price in the village, but a lot of my own personal bets are on the Betfair Exchange, often at better odds. Because of poor liquidity wouldn’t be fair putting the bet/price up on here (only available for peanuts). Studying takes less time these days, but getting on is taking longer. Expect it’s only going to become more frustrating; Shantou Village to win any 2016 Festival race particularly so. Without a Hills account and can’t get on anywhere else!
