Value Is EverythingIn the Pendil, Nicholls is in better form now than when Rubaud ran against L’Eau Du Sud. Bit of a quick turn around after Warwick, but has done it before. Flattered by his proximity to the Arkle horse, but that’s more than allowed for in the betting. Rubaud isn’t sure to stay, but although there’s been more rain than forecast which could put more emphasis on stamina… it is possible he could get a soft lead and set a slowish pace… Well, if the rank outsider Bhaloo does not take him on. I suspect the latter will be on a recovery mission, having been pulled up twice, so less likely to go to the front. On hurdles form Rubaud should be difficult to beat and is proven right-handed…
Unlike the second favourite Imperial Saint. All of his chase starts have been left-handed and has jumped that way too at times. Third in an open handicap at Cheltenham last time out isn’t far behind Rubaud’s form. Just don’t think the conditions suit.
Ashdale Bob would be the other possible prominent runner, which is one reason why he’s a bet and he can race pretty much anywhere. The Irish horse might be 10 years old but – after not jumping well when put over fences in previous seasons – has jumped well on his two starts this term. Needs to improve to beat a top form Rubaud, but there is that stamina doubt with the fav – so may not need to.
The rain is probably against Boombawn, rarely races on soft… And has to give weight to both Rubaud and Imperial.
Mark Of Gold was dwarfed by Handstands, Kalif and Jango in the Scilly Isles. And lacks the scope of some here too.
The fact Bhaloo ran over hurdles on his penultimate start immediately after winning – rang alarm bells… And then the two PU’s all suggest he’s had big problems at home since his victory.
Value Is EverythingGreat write up GT. You obviously spend a fair amount of time studying the races and you’re then kind enough to post your selections on here. I wouldn’t dare dream of asking you to then also post an explanation behind each selection. It is great though reading your thoughts on how you see the race. Your write up paint pictures and I find them very helpful for my own form reading.
