It was a good move to increase your stake on Noble Dynasty. I wasn’t going to have a bet in the race but I did when he hit 3.3 on Betfair. To my mind, the horse only drifted because of Appleby’s comment about being slightly concerned about the ground. But that did not mean the horse could not win, especially when his main rivals were a disappointing horse in Nostrum and an 8 year old in Pogo.
It looked like the market over-reacting to something which was not a fact and it made the horse a good value bet.
June 29, 2024 at 19:13 #1700376Exactly, CAS.
I backed Noble Dynasty for the John Of Gaunt when he was a non-runner on – if anything – softer than today… And said that day I was surprised because he has good form on good-firm… Although had been injured since that injury. For me – being a non-runner at Haydock may well have been due to the large number of prominent runners and giving the horse longer to recover from his last time out victory. Good record fresh. Sometimes hasn’t put a sequence together but that maybe more to do with needing a fair amount of time between races.Yes, Nostrum was worth opposing given his previous temperament. Good to see the gelding op’ seems to have worked – ran well. Pogo is old but reliable, possibly went a touch too fast. Witch Hunter made his usual late ground to reach the frame. Dear My Friend just hasn’t run well of late. Noble Dynasty the obvious horse.
Value Is EverythingJune 29, 2024 at 19:36 #1700377Not sure it ended up being much of a race: Pogo raced on his own up the centre, Nostrum came to win the race, but didn’t go through with it, and Witch Hunter did what he usually does, loses.
June 29, 2024 at 19:44 #1700379I agree it probably wasn’t a race that took a lot of winning but at a shade over 9/4, Noble Dynasty had to be the bet. If Appleby had not made his comments, he would have gone off shorter.
Fair play to Appleby for saying he had a concern but it was up to punters to decide if the horse was worth backing or not at the price.
Agree with Ginger that it was a little more encouraging from Nostrum but I would still be a bit wary of him. Might he be worth chancing in a decent handicap instead of persisting in Group company?
June 29, 2024 at 19:58 #1700381Being out on his own is what Pogo wants, Stilvi.
…And although I was expecting him to do something wrong, I personally can’t see that Nostrum did anything wrong today. Ran on well.
Overall it wasn’t the greatest Group 3, but imo the first two both have potential to do better. Hungerford or City Of York next I would think.Value Is EverythingJune 30, 2024 at 13:08 #1700427Grand Prix De Saint Cloud:
