Value Is EverythingJune 17, 2013 at 14:15 #443016My 100% Book:
Dawn Approach 13/8,Toronado 100/30
, Magician 4/1,
Mars 12/1, Dundonnell 15/1, Letir Mor 66/1
, George Vancouver 132/1, Glory Awaits 132/1, Mshawish 132/1.
Dawn Approach
has the best form but had a hard race in the Derby and not much time to recover.
Magician
ran really well in the Irish 2000 but had a set-back earlier in the week.
Toranado
needs to put the disappointment of our 2000 behind him. Had an oporation since but I am less confident with Dawn Approach’s pace maker (Letir Mor) in the field. Toronado pulled at Newmarket and it is possible a prominent position is important to him, might need to lead to show his best. I had an ante-post bet on him before I knew DA was running, if betting now I’d just make him a saver.
With questions about the big three – I make others better value. I have information from someone I trust that
Dundonnell
needed the Craven run and looked much fitter last time out. Charlton’s also now in better form.
33/1
@ betfair looks too big to ignore.
Mars
did well in the Derby considering he was coming from last in a slowly run race. Only 6th, but not far behind the principles. Had an easier race than Dawn Approach and lightly raced; seems sure to step up on his form if getting a truly run mile this time. Form isn’t that far behind his more fancied stable companion. Around
16/1
is over-priced (imo).
Glory Awaits
improved by racing on his own (first time blinkers) in the 2000. Highly unlikely to get that sort of run again.
George Vancouver
hasn’t run anywhere near two year old form this term and may be sacrificed as Coolmoore’s pace maker.
Mshawish
does not look up to this standard, though is improving.
The other one I like at the prices is the Bolger pace maker
Letir Mor
. Not right early this term but came back to form last time. If not going off at a suicidal pace has better form than most pace setters and could stay there for longer than many think. Held on for second in Dewhurst while fulfilling the same role as here. At around
200/1
worth a pound or three.
Don’t get me wrong, I still believe the big three have a combined 82% chance between them, just think it is worth chancing some of the others at the price.

Are you sure Toronado had an operation? I thought they were just trying a more conservative treatment which actually put me off backing him.
One other question, your early to declare your intentions but do you tend to wait til closer to the big day before spending the money ie are these antepost?
Keep up the good work

I thought I’d heard Toronado had a small op SHL, but may be I am wrong. Can’t see it anywhere on internet. He’s now moved yards, from Everleigh to Herridge. Only about a mile away from me as I write. They’ve changed the bit to a spoon bit, to try and help with breathing.
Every bet I write is done before I get on here, so apart from the ones yesterday (after final decs) my Royal Ascot portfolio is mostly Ante-post (so far).
Don’t know about "good work" SHL, financially this flat season has been a disappointment. Although had fewer bets than any year I can think of. Good Ascot could change it around.
