Friday 13th May
(A true Friday 13th)
2:10 Newbury
32 points @ 13/2 Stella Point
26 points @ 11/2 Rumh3rd
-58 points deficit
Stella Point backed at 13/2 came in to 3/1 fav, being a lightly raced filly was unsuited by the slow pace. 4Th, am sure she will do better. Rumh got the run of the race out front, no excuses.2:30 York
25 points each way @ 6/1 (not bog bsq) Askar Tau
12 points @ 9/2 (Corals) Native Ruler
-62 points deficit
Askar Tau did not seem to like being bumped when challenging. Native Ruler could not get room when going well, then didn’t have a turn of foot after a gap opened. Would’ve gone close with a clear run. Winner Duncan seemed to get a soft lead.3:00 York
36 points @ 7/2 (b365) Flood Plain
9 points @ 4/1 (b365) Primevere
-45 points deficit
Flood Plain 7/2 in to 9/4 but ran abysmally. Though in truth had little chance with the winner Theyskens’ Theory, Meehan chose this day to come back to form.3:10 Newbury
33 points @ 5/1 (Corals) Diamond Vision
36 points @ 8/1 (FD) Viking Storm3rd
5 points @ 14/1 (T) Cadore
-74 points deficit
Diamond Vision 5/1 to 4/1, finished last. Viking Storm 8/1 to 11/2 fair 3rd. Cadore 14/1 to 8/1, not good enough.4:20 Newbury
26 points @ 8.2/1 (betfair) Darajaat
16 points @ 13/2 (PP) Pabusar
21 points @ 2/1 (PP) Dinkum Diamond3rd
-63 points deficit
Darajaat in to 13/2, Dinkum Diamond 2/1 in to Evens, only 3rd. Pabusar didn’t look fit in the paddock, weak behind and drifted on reappearance. Elzaam looked a picture and came back to his best two year old form; worthy of a bet @ 16/1 for the Jubilee.Days Stakes 302 points,
Days Deficit -302 points
Saturday 14th May
2:00 Newbury
30 points @ 11/2 (VC bog) Ship’s Biscuit
11 points @ 11/4 (VC bog) Polly’s Mark2nd
-41 points
Polly’s Mark in to a stupid 6/4, ran her race, seemingly not good enough. Ship’s Biscuit looked irresolute early, dropping herself off the back before consenting to run on late for 4th. Winner Drunken Sailor drifted to an unbelievable 4/1. Shame I wasn’t concentrating and failed to see it.3:10 Newbury
37 points @ 9/2 (FD bog) Labarinto2nd
7 points @ 8.6/1 (betfair) General Synod
5 points @ 4/1 (Corals) Labarinto
(Loving Spirit non-runner)
-49 points deficit
General Synod disappointed. Labarinto should have won or gone close to it. Champion jockey giving the winner too much rope. Both Labarinto and third home Fulgar (who came from even further back) are worth keeping an eye on in future handicaps.3:45 Newbury
44 points @ 7/2 (WH bog) Dick Turpin
7 points @ 8/1 (WH bog) Twice Over
(Cityscape non-runner)
-51 points deficit
Dick Turpin in to 11/4 but both bets disappointed, leaving Canford Cliffs with a straightforward task, achieved with ease.Days Stakes 141 points,

18 points @ 9.5/1 (betfair) Mutayaser3rd
10 points @ 4/1 (b365) Askaud
-50 points deficit
Mutayaser went off at 11/1, looked the likely winner, but samwiched between two and with a whip in the face declined to go through a gap. The other two disappointed.3:10 Goodwood
30 points @ 11/2 (PP) Poplin
16 points @ 15/8 (b365)Beatrice Aurore 1st Return 46 points
(46)0 points profit
Yippee something back for once! Well, at least I didn’t lose any money on the race. Ending a long run of 8. Beatrice Aurore looks worthy of a place in the Oaks. Didn’t look to be going especially well in behind horses, but once pulled out and in the clear, produced a turn of foot. Poplin in from 11/2 to 5/2 ! Asked quite a question, held up in a slowly run race. Made up quite a bit of ground around the outside to be 4th, may do better still.4:20 Goodwood
22 points @ 15/2 (WH)Masked Marvel 1st Return 187 points
10 points @ 9/4 (WH) Badeel

Masked Marvel did the biz, booking a Derby entry although the form doesn’t look much. Two 2/1 joint favs ran poorly.

7:05 Salisbury
45 points @ 7/2 (SJ) Mixed Emotions
23 points @ 8/1 (C) Adelina Patti
-68 points deficit
Adelina Patti halved in price, down to 4/1. Not given a hard race after caught behind a wall of horses. Strange Hughes was on the outsider of two Hannon horses (Gennie), may be did not want the risk of injury. Mixed Emotions was free to post, predictably free in the race too under his apprentice. Nothing left by halfway.7:40 Salisbury
13 points each way @ 9/1 Milnagavie
11 points each way @ 12/1 Dynamic Drive
-48 points deficit
Identified an odds-on fav worth taking on, who finishes out with the washing (pulled early). Then best of your each ways finishes 4th. The two horses going off at 7/1 and 8/1. Winner, Captain John Dixon sweated up and swished his tail in the paddock. But there was nowt wrong with his finishing effort; very genuine.8:45 Salisbury
25 points @ 15/2 (SJ) Tornado Force
-25 points
Fallon on Cunning Act, saw that Tornado Force did not get the soft lead I expected. Rushing around the outside quite early. What made it worse was: I backed Cunning Act on course and got beat when Bussa got up on the line. Worse than that; I’d seen 33/1 available for Bussa, which was (according to my 100% book) value. But wanted to see the going / times before backing him. Did not want it too firm and no time came within 2 seconds of Racing Post Standard, so all well and good. However, best I could see on track was 16/1. No Bet!!!!Days Stakes 141 points,

Saturday 21st May
2:45 Goodwood
61 points @ 5/2 (b365)Harlstone Times 1st Return 244 points
(bog 3/1 SP)
183 points profit
Beachfire looked outstanding in the paddock and was duly well backed and market rival Harlstone Times drifted as a result and topped up @ 3/1. Beachfire did his usual thing, unwilling early before a strong finish, but not good enough. Harlstone Times made his move earlier and had too much in hand for the front running runner-up Nave. John Dunlop’s horse may well be able to go in again.

5 points @ 10/1 (WH) Markab
20 points @ 16/1 (FD, b365) Prohibit3rd
55 points deficit
Could easily have picked one of these each way. And /or backed the winner Sole Power too. Three obvious hold up horses filling the winners enclosure; in a race almost certain to be strongly run, with so many front runners. Both main selections ran as well as could be expected, not good enough. Kingsgate Native well backed in to 7/2SP.3:20 Goodwood
19 points @ 17/1 (betfair) Prince Siegfried
30 points @ 12/1 (PP)City Leader 1st Return 496 points
(bog 16/1 SP)
8 points @ 8.6/1 (betfair) Sea Of Heartbreak
13 points @ 9/2 (WH bog) Forte Dei Marmi
(70)426 points profit
Wow! What a result, what a day! Did not get a good view of City Leader in the paddock as watching the Temple Stakes. So did not top up, still can’t complain, especially with bog. Got up in a finish of heads. Prince Siegfried did not get the soft lead expected with stable mate Al Zir dictating. Loads of money for Forte Dei Marmi, 9/2 to 5/2, will do better in more strongly run event. His good form last year being in competitive handicaps. Sea Of Heartbreak ran well enough though looked set to play a more starring role at one point.

Not good for the ticker. Went in to yesterday just hoping to get something back. Thought I was on the right track with so many of my bets shortening considerably; which maintained confidence. But to make a profit from the 5 days was a surprise.
