RACING broadcaster Derek Thompson was described as "brighter" on Tuesday, while he awaited the results of tests for viral meningitis at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge.
Thompson was rushed to the hospital by ambulance from his home in Ashley, Newmarket on Saturday evening when sufffering from an unbearable headache.
There, Thompson had an MRI scan, but a lumbar puncture to test for meningitis was delayed until Tuesday morning.
Wife Julie said: "He had a lumbar puncture but there are still no results. He has been sleeping alot but is looking a lot brighter today and is recovering slowly."
Thompson had been due in action at Wolverhampton on Monday but his illness meant that, excluding holidays, he had to have his first day off in 25 years.

Get well soon,Big Fella.
November 10, 2009 at 17:35 #258137To coin one of his own phrases, "let’s see what happens".
Hopefully this is little more than the most temporary of setbacks, and he’ll be back delighting the casual / newbie racegoer (and irking the purists) all in good time.

Surprised also to hear on ATR today that trainer Brendan Powell is recovering from a "mild" heart attack.Best wishes to them both ……….. and to Mick Fitz too.
