how come he ran on again? because fit or not he is much classier than everything else in the race. if you watch the race as soon as he got a slap on his quarters he was closing to the end, he just gave them too much of a lead before doing it.
June 21, 2007 at 12:25 #65452He just ran too fresh back for the first time.
The confidence from Ballydoyle is significant in itself. Judgement should be held until his next race.
August 16, 2007 at 10:27 #4866His comeback hasnt set the world alight and his strike rate is starting to hit Alan Berry percentages
Out of juddmonte next week, so is the 10f objective shelved? Might be able to pick up a weak Champion stakes at end of season I suppose
And yet, does he still "have it" for the mile races?
Perhaps Breeders mile on the agenda and i dont know whether hes entered at Ascot or not.
August 16, 2007 at 10:51 #111457According to the organisers, there is a possibility that he could go for the Topkapi Trophy at Istanbul, Europe’s most valuable mile race, on 9th September.
August 16, 2007 at 11:07 #111458O’Brien has said that they are "thinking of wating with GW and aiming him at the Irish Champion Stakes instead [of the Juddmonte] in September"
August 16, 2007 at 12:12 #111464The chances of GW having a crack at hurdling look brighter as every day passes

In fairness to GW, I don’t think he has been that well handled by O’Brien – running on both heavy at the Curragh and on dirt at the BC are examples – and , with better placing, could easily have won more races than he has.
For what it’s worth, I think his two runs this year prove that he still retains plenty of ability , but I worry that he isn’t concentrating firmly on the job in hand ; at Sandown he appeared, imo, to have his own ideas about the game .
August 16, 2007 at 13:58 #111470What about a go at back-to-back QE2’s at Ascot ?
August 16, 2007 at 14:55 #111473Would be good Sam

Someone said something similar on the Betfair forum and was accused of racism
I agree, although whether AOB had the final say..we do not know.
August 16, 2007 at 17:56 #111483George Washington has barely run upto 120 this year. Personally I’d keep him off the racecourse for a while and hope he shows signs of improvement at home. He’s nothing like the horse he was at the moment.

In my mind, his efforts this year are on a par with last year – I think he faces sterner competition this year – and that his official mark in the high 120s is just a little too high.
When the official handicapper jumped Court Masterpiece – a horse we saw plenty of to form an opinion – up 6lbs ( I think ) after the QEII just to justify his/her lofty opinion of the Ballydoyle horse, my alarm bells started ringing.
August 16, 2007 at 23:44 #111520I dont actually think he was overrated. I think he has most of his ability from last year but this time round he seems to be holding a bit back. If you look at his comeback race, he didnt want to know unless it was on his terms and ran on at the end.
Then in the eclipse, he cruised upsides Authorized and didnt do much after, albeit with less than ideal conditions.
I’d imagine with a good or better 1m/1m2 he is capapble of winning and if he gets those conditions and doesnt win he won’t have any excuses.August 17, 2007 at 00:17 #111524GW is a head case the same as Scorpion .. if things don’t go his own way, he throws the towel in, quickly.
August 18, 2007 at 03:30 #111648I would aim George at the B.C. Mile, only because I can’t fancy him on the dirt for the Classic.

Today is surely his day?
On proper good ground, he should eat these for breakfast.September 9, 2007 at 08:53 #114107Hello,
It appears GW is fast becoming the David Beckham of racing and all the circus that accompanies it
As one contributor has suggested, get him over hurdles!!
regards,
doyley
September 9, 2007 at 09:12 #114109This looks a two horse race as i cant have the filly DARJINA at any price, Longchamp should suit GW better than the undulating tracks he`s frequented this year, KF is 5/7 on him and that might be the key, underfoot conditions should be fine, RAMONTI is the only danger in my opinion, this horse has a real will to win and tactical races suit him better than most, Dettori is sure to give him every chance…………intriguing race where we have best of both worlds with regards to punting, Betfair , fixed odds and the PMU should put the advantage in our favour!!
