I make no apologies for coming back with this big-priced loser last time I tipped him. I’m convinced Un Beau Roman is a much better horse than his form profile suggests. He travels like a high class animal, and I believe he’ll win a good race once they’ve found his trip and ground.
He’s 100/1 for this tomorrow, and it’s a shame that withdrawals will make it no good for EW betting. But I’ll be backing him at 100/1 to spring a shock in full confidence I’ll get a good run for my money.

I like your call @ 100/1. A lot of things could go wrong for the other 4 runners, so a bold show and maybe a top 2 finish aren’t out of this world. Good luck with your bet!
February 12, 2016 at 19:19 #1233355Thanks Ruby. I wish the ground was better, but am convinced he’ll still be on the bridle 3 out. Where he goes from there will be fun to watch :)
February 12, 2016 at 19:22 #1233356Chance of a shock but not that much of one though.
Nothing wrong with putting it up because nobody remembers 100/1 losers and if you throw enough darts…
February 12, 2016 at 19:35 #1233358Best of luck Joe but to be honest personally I think Dodging Bullets can turn up 85 % fit and still win. 4/5 IS MASSIVE !!

I throw very few darts when they are that price. The last one was this . . .
February 12, 2016 at 21:10 #1233369This is L’Ami Serge 2nd preference and if he comes out it will be reduced to win only with the dead 4.
If Un Beau Roman is a strong traveller Joe, it could be worth backing on betfair and lay in-running for a green book
Nicholls has said Dodging Bullets will come on for the run and normally needs stoking along a fair way from home so the in-running market could see plenty of movement.Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
February 12, 2016 at 21:29 #1233373Good idea, Nathan.
February 12, 2016 at 21:39 #1233375I’ve backed L’Ami Surge each way @ 6/1. Has bags of potential and if re-routing here could give his Arkle chances a boost. If he comes out I’ll be after the best price available for Top Gamble. I’d be quite happy to take win only. An under-rated horse. Coming back to 2m should have enough pace. Booking of Johnson could signify a return to front running tactics to make the most of his stamina/fitness. Backed Dodging Bullets ante-post for last year’s Champion Chase but it turned out to be a substandard affair. Want to take him on first time out tomorrow. Will need to be fairly close to his best giving away the weight. Test of stamina in that ground may be against him too. I’ve laid a bit of 4/6. Think odds against will be available at some point. Even more doubts with Captain Conan, anyone’s guess how much ability he retains, which way the market goes could tell. Un Beau Roman‘s benefitted from main rivals going off too quick. “Value is everything” but Sorry Joe, I’d want 1000/1 to back it.
As a 5 horse race my 100% book is:
Dodging bullets 11/10, Top Gamble 100/30, L’Ami Surge 4/1, Captain Conan 10/1, Un Beau Roman 400/1Value Is EverythingFebruary 12, 2016 at 21:45 #1233377I make no apologies for coming back with this big-priced loser last time I tipped him. At that price Joe you don’t have to risk much, so nothing lost. You have a decent
eye so I thought “what the hell” a couple of quid is not amiss. However, it looks
like I’ve made a slight boo boo. You mentioned withdrawals, I thought there was
only Josses Hill being withdrawn, so with 5 standing I thought a small e/w 2 places
was worth a go. I didn’t realise that L’Ami Serge was also entered at Warwick and is
almost certain to head there……bugger! Not to worry, I tried to place a tenner e/w with Boylesports at 100/1, but they would
only allow me £6.10 e/w, so it looks like I’ll have £12.20 on the nose. If he’s still
there with 2 to go, as Fergie would say, it’s squeeky bum time
February 12, 2016 at 22:36 #1233391Aye, Graham, I’ve backed win only at 100 with a couple of different bookies – mostly with 365 where the R4 will be ‘cheapest’.
I took Nathan’s advice too and have had an average of about 116/1 on Betfair then left a lay order in at 20s. Double the excitement for the money!

Dodging bullets 11/10, Top Gamble 100/30, L’Ami Surge 4/1, Captain Conan 10/1, Un Beau Roman 400/1In all likelihood it isn’t going to happen but I would have fancied L’Ami Serge against the favourite. I can see your thinking about Johnson being very positive on Top Gamble but just wonder if he is actually good enough to hold off the favourite. One mistake and it could easily go pear-shaped. On the plus side this is his Champion Chase and a stepping stone for Dodging Bullets. Having said that I would still want a bigger price than currently on offer.
February 14, 2016 at 01:03 #1233573Well, to say that was disappointing, doesn’t get close to how poor it was. It can be a might costly business sticking with horses like this, but his price protected the trainer and rider from an enquiry today, as he was never asked for an effort bar a brief shake of the reins turning in. Objective was apparently 2.6k in place money and protection of his mark.
He will pop up somewhere, perhaps in The Grand Annual at Cheltenham.
