From the irishracing.com website:
“Mullins’ assistant David Casey said: “Yorkhill is a bit of an enigma, but he seems well and he’s been working well and schooling well.
“He has shown a tendency to jump left, which isn’t ideal around Galway — but he’s been jumping straight in his schooling, and the last fence is also a long way from home. We’re hoping he’ll be able to go down the inner and the other 20-odd runners keep him straight .” ”
Anyone want to bet how many competitors he can skittle at each fence?

In fairness he did jump quite straight in the Suir Valley chase, till the last two. I just think if he’s under pressure or tired or not 100% that’s what he reverts to. The point about the long run in is a decent one and I can’t help remember his G1 novice chase win at Fairyhouse when he nearly jumped out through the left wing at times and still nearly got up to beat Road to Respect after the last. The mention of him working well is interesting as I thought he was one who didn’t do a tap at home.
July 31, 2019 at 08:41 #1449992Sticking with Barra and will add one more, possibly Poker Party.
On the two pulling out and being replaced by their owner’s other runners i think its a system that needs revised. Today’s plate the 136 horse was 1st reserve and then there were two 135s, one JPs and one a syndicate horse. Last year, there were 3 on the same mark, owned by RR + Giggy if i remember correctly, and the third by a syndicate. The big boys seems to get the luck of the draw quite regularly in these reserve lists. I think it should be revised and if an owner already has a horse in the race the owner with no runner should be 1st reserve. It wouldn’t please some, but as part of the syndicate that missed out last year it was very annoying.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!July 31, 2019 at 10:42 #1450022Mengli Khan, Peregrine Run and Ravenhill for me
July 31, 2019 at 11:24 #1450028I like that idea Jack. They’d have to word the rules so that they went on ownership at the time the entries were made, to avoid ownership of reserve horses suddenly transferring to a “syndicate” consisting of Billy Bigbaws and his wife and kids. It doesn’t solve the “same trainer” thing eg Ballycasey and Patricks Park last year not in same ownership. It would help a bit though. The shifting of timings so the reserves can’t get in after the morning of the previous day makes it a bit less farcical too though it’s hard on “genuine” reserves who can’t replace a proper NR on the day (eg if it had heaved it down overnight and Peregrine Run had been taken out this morning, Mill Quest still wouldn’t have got a run).
July 31, 2019 at 11:33 #1450031Also, if there isn’t already a system in place whereby a HRI vet can, on occasion, turn up at the yard of a spurious NR, trot it up, stick a thermometer up its bum and offer it a lock of oats to check the “stone bruise/high temperature/off feed” excuses then there should be.
July 31, 2019 at 11:51 #1450037Trying to remember what exactly happened with Listen Dear last year, but i remember being fairly P0 about how the reserves were working!

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!July 31, 2019 at 13:24 #1450047I’ve taken a chance on Yorkhill and Poker Party at 25’s and 16’s. The latter seems pretty mad value.
The same can’t be said for my old ally Movewithetimes who I’ve followed off a cliff for what seems like forever and while I’d usually jump on him in a race like this; I can’t have 10/1 when you look at his recent runs coupled with a race this competitive.
July 31, 2019 at 14:33 #1450054Great write up, as ever, Bobby. Modus caught my eye, especially as he usually goes well fresh. But he seems best in small fields.
The West’s Awake catches my eye for value. His form figures on jumping are not inspiring but he seems to have no obvious flaws in his technique. He’s a bonny type who is probably improving and I’ve backed him EW at 25/1.
Good luck.
July 31, 2019 at 17:04 #1450074Modus 22-1 + Black Corton 12-1 for me.
I’m sure that Nicholls will have one of them fully tuned for this. I’m just going on the nose with the pair of them.
July 31, 2019 at 17:57 #1450076Ilikedway stewards don’t work in Ireland. LOL
Value Is EverythingJuly 31, 2019 at 18:15 #1450080Evening all , anyone know why this bolger horse at the bottom of the handicap is so short ? , I’ve ignored it and played yorkhill and coney island ( Inc reverse forecast ) along with a wee tickle e.w on a toi Phil ( must have a long memory ) , love to see yorkhill run a big race , he,s obviously a big monkey but he does have a engine , shame Coney has had so many niggling injuries , had to play him as he had a bit of class ….good luck all
July 31, 2019 at 18:21 #1450082With Drumcliff not making the final line up, I’ve came down on Barra as the replacement.
He’s a big price if he has recovered from his recent run.
July 31, 2019 at 19:05 #14500883rd dart in this is a smaller bet on the basket case Yorkhill 28s ew
Simply because this race is so wrong for him the fact that he is running must mean something….July 31, 2019 at 19:11 #1450089I’m with you on Yorkhill, he has to be worth a mad bet at that price GG.
I’m also in the Crosshue Boy camp, and I’ve taken the full 6 places at 28-1.
It’s a fantastic line up this year, and it should be a cracker.
July 31, 2019 at 19:18 #1450090Ravenhill 20s now. Ew 6 places is a good bet- he’s a sound jumper.
July 31, 2019 at 19:35 #1450095WD those of you with EW money. I missed the whole damn shooting match as live stream would not load on phone or laptop with b365 or PaddyP but assume my choices didn’t get over the last few fences and up the hill, looking at their odds drifting and disappearing on the b365 site.
Bryony and Blackie must have done well to cart that weight around and into 2nd.
July 31, 2019 at 19:45 #1450098Black corton was badly impeded by a loose horse too
Whether hed have won without the interference is unlikely but pretty much ended his chance
