This looks like one of the most competitive handicap hurdles we’ll see. Truckers Delight is a horse I’ve been following and looks to have a massive chance. The first 3 from last year are all back, and Northern Alliance, who I backed last year, has a very nice swing in the weights with the others. Indian Pace ran a very eyecatching race on his latest start, and that should put him spot on for Galway. Eagles Pass will surely be there-abouts again and he too ran a nice race last time out. Who could say Cuan Na Grai won’t regain his title, if he gets his ground he is very classy. There are atleast 10 or 12 others who could win and was just wondering what your opinions are on the race lads (& lasses).

I was all over Raise Your Heart for the County Hurdle at Cheltenham. He travelled beautifully throughout the race but he found nothing off the bit after he was hampered on the home turn. Backed him yesterday when bolting up on the level at Leopardstown but he’ll probably carry top weight in this and I’d have my doubts about him finding much up the Ballybrit hill.

Time Electric has always been a big talking horse ever since that bumper he won at Leopardstown a few years back. He’s failed to live up to his lofty reputation since but a reproduction of his run behind Zaarito would see him go close here.

Zarinava and Deutschland would be the two that interest me at this point in time. Zarinava’s form last season with Pandorama and Hurricane Fly reads quite well now. She’ll probably make the cut but there’d be doubts over whether Deutschland will get a run. He’s also in the Plate but potentially he could be very leniently treated over hurdles with a mark of 121. He showed huge improvement over fences and came within a whisker of winning the Power’s Gold Cup. If he got a run with some cut in the ground I’d say he’d go very close here. Hard to know what way Willie will go with him though because he’d be top weight off a mark of 146 in the Plate.

I have 3 friends going over to the meeting and one is adamant Cuan Na Grai is the horse to back so I had my self 100 quid ew on at 12/1.

Other than that I wouldn’t have a clue what to back as I have never heard of 90% of the runners.

Should be great meeting to watch though, especially if someone lands a big touch which no one can do as well as the Irish can..

Im on See U Bob each way for the hurdle at 14/1, won nicely at Killarney and big handicap pot at Fairyhouse. Should get a weight in low to mid 10 stone bracket.

I notice a some of these run today and take on hot pot Jumbo Rio. If one of them were to beat him he’d be wiped off the boards and be a hot favourite for this.

The ground will be soft enough for the likes of Cuan Na Graí, Ebaziyan and Megan’s Joy today at Tipp. The track at Limerick Junction also bears little resemblance to what these horses will encounter at Ballybrit. I hope Zarinava runs well with a view to Galway but she’ll be up against it taking on Jumbo Rio today. Its hard to look past the horse with Grade 1 form in a contest like this.

I think we should have backed Jumbo Rio Imp

Had a small few bob on him Fisty!

Cuan Na Graí ran with great credit on ground that would be soft enough for him. Don’t think Barry was too hard on Zarinava and judging by the betting she probably needed the run a bit.

Hard to know how much to read into that race with a view to Galway. Limerick Junction is a far flatter and speedier track. Cuan Na Graí has form around Ballybrit though.

Cuan Na Graí ran well even if flattered a little with Jumbo Rio clouting the last and losing momentum. They say he might run in the chase at the meeting instead of this. If he does it will take a very good horse to beat him on that run.

A nice weight carrying performance from Amazing King at Yarmouth this afternoon. Should put him spot-on for Galway.

He was third in the Scottish County Hurdle and needs fast ground to be seen at his best, which makes his performance today look even better. He was generally a 25/1 shot before racing for the Galway Hurdle.

Philip Kirby’s string are firing at present (Agglestone Rock was very impressive on his chasing debut at Cartmel last week) and all the best to him.

I’ll have a few quid on ew.

Topping up my antepost bets on Deutschland for tomorrow. Reckon he’s an e/w bet to nothing with the 5 places. Ground has come right for him and it should bring his stamina into play. If he doesn’t get outpaced early on it’s hard to see him out of the 5.

Even thought the price on Deutschland is contracting all the time, I’m beginning to fancy him big time. I backed him in the Pierce Hurdle where he might well have won with a bit more luck, thought Ruby left him with a bit much to do. Northern Alliance is another who will see out the trip well. He reopposes his conquerers from last year Indian Pace and Eagles Pass on much better terms tomorrow. It’s an extremely open race.

Last night I made a list of Dermot Welds and Jessie Harringtons horses running on the Wednesday. Ignoring the big race, from 8 horses there were 3 winners, 1 second and one third with one of the winners being 14/1. I hasten to add that I didn’t have a bet. May do the same for tomorrow and this time put some money on.

What a fine example of a race where a pin would have been of more assistance than a formbook. On good or firmer the winner had a chance on soft ground he appeared to have no chance yet he bolts up. This following quick ground performer Suruor winning on rain-softened ground at Goodwood.

Walsh said of runner-up Deutschland: "It took him a long time to get jumping. He’s just a chaser running over hurdles and lost half a length at every hurdle – that’s eight lengths."

    Erm, 4 lengths surely.

Actually, I’ll give Ruby the benefit, and assume the RP have made a mistake by including the word half.
