Seriously dodgy goings on at Galway. Favourite is by far the best horse in the race but drifted from evens to 7/4. As soon as the flag dropped gerathy was doing everything to unbalance the horse and stop it getting into a rhythm. Then it gets beaten by another JP horse who hasn’t done anything in ages. Aspen Colorado will get a low mark now and win a handicap at Cheltenham.

Definitely looked a non-trier without being too obvious. Will need to achieve a rating in the high-130s to get into a handicap at the festival, though.

If that’s what you think TWM, I suggest you look up the form of the winner Joshua Lane again and go back further than two runs.

Aspen Colorado has only had one run over hurdles, winning a maiden. So although has potential to improve – the form isn’t that good yet.

Joshua Lane may have been 25/1, but had much better form than the favourite if going back just 3 runs – to 6th Feb, 4 3/4 lengths 3rd, in receipt of only 5 lbs to the very well thought of Blazer. Would’ve been even closer had he not made a bad mistake at the last.

Joshua Lane then, after 3 months off (probably some type of injury) disappointed on next start (28th April) when jumping went to pieces…
Then ran awful, pulled up on a firmer surface on 15th May.

Today was JL’s first run since. So although had a PU last time out had had 5 months off to get over whatever ailed him… And tongue tied for the first time.

On form, imo today was in all probability Aspen Colorado’s best performance over hurdles, some way better than debut. However, did show more temperament than you’d like to see regarding future engagements. Personally, I think BG did well to get AC as close as he did.

Whenever a short priced JP horse is beaten by a stable companion people think “dodgy”. But would JP have allowed this to go off 25/1 had connections known JL was back to his best? I don’t think so.

Every time anyone suggests JP might be pulling a stroke you always defend. The actions of geragthy on that horse were typical of a non trier trying to look like he was trying and the betting told the story as to whether it was trying or not.

    Rubbish.

If that were so, BG would not have been as vigorous from the start. It would’ve been so simple to keep within the rules and just give a normal hands and heels ride. But had he done so BG realised AC would’ve gone backwards and dropped himself out. As it was BG was vigorous, bumping and pushing from the start and did not give up.

I have personally criticised BG and JP quite a lot over the years when justified. Just don’t agree with you here TWM.

Your opinion is based purely on the favourite drifting and the winner being an owner companion.

What do you think of Aspen Colorado’s form?
What do you think of Joshua Lane’s form?
JL had the form to beat AC. Do you agree or disagree?

I watched the race live. I thought BG done everything possible to get Aspen up. Jumping the last I thought he might just do it and it would be a ride of the week contender!
IMO everything was happening a little to quick for the horse liking and a step up in trip is very much what is needed.

That is simply not true and by a wide margin. It gives a totally wrong picture of things.
