First post here and I’m fairly sure it’s a stupid question but I like stupidity, i’m used to it.

How do trainers know what races are available? Let’s say for example I am training a horse who I expect to be ready to race in 2-3 weeks and would suit a 2m hurdle. How do I know which fixtures will have a 2m hurdle in a couple of weeks? The furthest future race information I have found, apart from the fixture itself, is once the entries have actually been made and the provisional racecard is available.

Is this information obtained through Wetherbys?

    Ta in advance

Hi, you are correct this information is available through Weatherbys via The Programme Book, which anyone can buy if they so wish from their site

    http://www.weatherbysshop.co.uk/acatalog/info_778.html

If your just going racing in a few weeks time and want to see how many races are due, or what class/distance etc, you can go onto the racingpost website, click on cards, then say 25th of this month and that information is already there, it’s usually available about a month in advance, it may be available elsewhere…….

Is that £66 for the year i.e four hard-copy instalments?

Do they provide a cheaper .pdf version for download?

As far as I know they don’t do any downloadable versions of The Programme Book. That £66 includes a half price copy of the previous edition (not sure why you’d want that) I think they are usually around the £45 mark seperately per quarter, they do annual subscriptions which are obviously cheaper. There is also the Racing Calendar which is a similar thing but published weekly and that has race conditions for 3 weeks in advance which is £7 odd a week.
