Why are not seeing any more french trainers sending their horses in big races on our side of the english channel. In previous years we have seen the likes messers Doumen and Macaire having runners in big english hurdle races and steeplechases but nowadays french runners in the uk have seemed to dryed up why is this? They are too busy selling their horses to nicholls/henderson etc but there is no reason why they cannot race them themselves. I am a little dispointed that the best chaser in france Rubi Ball did not run in the King Geroge on boxing day. Perhape the powers that be at cheltenham should offered french trained horses apperence money to get them to run at the festival.
December 28, 2011 at 05:40 #384551Why would they? Purses in the UK are abysmal compared to France.
December 28, 2011 at 10:09 #384563Why on earth would French trainers want to come here on a regular basis to run their horses for peanuts?
The big autumn G1 chase in France, Le Prix La Haye Jousselin, has a prize fund of 500,000 euros, that’s at least
double
the KG6 chase. This year’s winner, Rubi Ball, most recently ran 3rd in the G2 Georges Courtois which had a prize fund of around the same as at Kempton.
The question you should really be asking is, "Why aren’t British trainers regularly running their jumpers in France?".
