Notice the French have produced a list of races that give connections free supplementary entry to the Arc.
Plus any of the winners will be exempt from elimination should the race be oversubscribed regardless of rating .
Something similar should be done for our Grand National would add interest to the whole season

I think one or two of the races they picked could/should have been from outside of France and quite clearly the biggest faux pas was not getting rid of the ban on allowing geldings to run in the race (really not a hard decision as none of their arguments against it hold much water).

You do exempt races for GN in UK , Mullins will clean them all up no doubt at all so even less scraps left on table for rest of them .

For a number of years the winners of the Maryland Hunt Cup and Virginia Gold Cup were given invitations to the following year’s Grand National, but I don’t think they have that going currently.

British racing prefers the entry fees and the money. One of the many negatives of having bookmakers rather than a PMU. Would make little difference to the Grand National anyway, which apart from the prize money is well past it’s sell buy date, now they’ve ruined it by all the changes. They should run the National at Badminton, those fences take far more jumping than those excuses for fences at Aintree.

Which races should have this “free supplementary”.

I was once in favour but now not so sure.

Races like the Welsh Grand National tend to be won by one paced plodders who need very soft ground.
The Aintree Grand National is usually run on “Good-Soft” / proper Good going. Usually needing horses with 3m2f speed rather than out and out stayers… And many Welsh National stayers have rounded actions. Encouraging round actioned horses to race on good going will result in more leg injuries and more fatalities.
