If Maxime Guyon could have ridden out Cutlass Bay instead of trying to keep him together, he could have won by 2-3 lengths.
The way Cutlass Bay loomed up to Shalanaya was awesome. Left a very smart filly for dead.
It’s a pseudo-accolade this early in the season yes, but I would think CB is the currently the benchmark in Europe.
May 3, 2010 at 09:32 #293853If we’re looking at the Arc what about Rewilding?

Am looking forward to the ‘Imprudence’ – pitty there’s no ‘Dolled Up’ there…The ‘Djebel’ should be interesting if only to see how a 100/1 shot for Newmarket gets on!

Thank you
Yes, yes, Bravo!!!
Your Absolute Power is running in the Hedouville on Thursday.
May 3, 2010 at 17:53 #293987If we’re looking at the Arc what about Rewilding?
Possibly, certainly looks like he has potential (and the right breeding), but I think it is too early to tell yet. With Cutlass Bay/Daryakana, we have seen enough realized talent to be able to realistically talk about their Arc chances.
May 5, 2010 at 12:35 #294225Well, first off Mme C-H-M was so right when she said, "You must watch or be careful with horses as they can quickly make a liar of you."
Fair play UM for keeping the faith with both ‘SD & CC’…I was premature with my doubts – I hope that you treated yourself to some bling?!
I’ve heard it said in various places that the form of the ‘Djebel’ that ‘Makfi’ won is working out very poorly!
I do wish that people would check for themselves before jumping on bandwagons and following others like sheep!Of the
‘Thyan’ who’s first three races were over 1 mile ran over 6f for the first time and was thrashed! – Wrong trip maybe?!‘Too Nice Name’ was only beaten 1 & 3/4L more by ‘Siyouni’ over a furlong further on completely different ground to what he run on at Maisons.
‘Siyouni’ will no doubt go off a short price for the French Guineas…
Was the form of his win in the Jean-Luc Lagardere vastly overlooked and underrated?
Lastly, have a look at the race comments for both ‘US Ranger’ & ‘Makfi’
after their wins in the ‘Djbel’.‘Us’ – "Made all, quickened up 1 1/2f out, always in command"
‘Mak’ – "Waited with in rear, smooth progress at halfway, quickened well to lead 2f out, soon drew clear 1f out, easily"
Neither had to beat world beaters on those occasions – yet ‘Us’ went off at 5’s (due to connections) and ‘Mak’ at 33’s…when they came to Newmarket.
May 5, 2010 at 13:02 #294230Irish- nice one with ‘Blek’ 5/1 would have been great
UM no doubt you were thrilled with his win too…
‘Shemiyla’ looked to have a good chance (with her 2nd to ‘Celimene’ last year) – had hoped that ‘Plu’ would help make the market!
Nobody fancies that ‘Cutlass’ will stay…? Thought that ‘Cel’ run ok – the lack of pace def didn’t suit her & maybe wanting further?
Anybody think that we’ll see any of them out at Ascot?
‘Daryakana’ wants good – ‘Cutlass’ wants give…should they meet one will be at a disadvantage…
This is for you Irish:
Bannaby second in Spain
04/05/2010 – | Preparation
Bannaby ranked second in a race at 2200 meters, 2 May in Madrid. The winner of the Prix du Cadran 2008 continues its preparation for the Gold Cup at Ascot in June.
P.s.
‘Eightfold’ is said to be coming back soon…
P.p.s.
No Absolute Power he goes there with his other ‘Aiz’ the other race looks good also…an Ascot entry in there…
May 5, 2010 at 13:16 #294231Thanks Zen – sadly no 5’s but was happy enough to take 7/2 in the morning to be fair.
Looking forward to Aizavoski running tomorrow – not had a good look at the race but he was very impressive over 12f last year and was upped in trip after a disappointing start so we’ll see if he can get back on the winning track.
Only get to see Frogs Racing for the French results.
Glad to see Bannaby back – not taken any prices for Ascot yet and I see Bottega has some entries in France coming up so will be looking at him closely too
May 5, 2010 at 21:28 #294287…thanks for your earlier comments Zenjah, I’ve been reading the thread on and off. Yes I bought some bling…?…if that’s the right word
..and delighted Blek got his group win. I wish he raced over here.I hope Mons. Fabre was pleased with the riding of Mikael Barzalona on Simon de Montfort in the Prix la Force. I wasn’t.
I feel sure this horse is a good stayer yet he was ridden as if to get the trip, switched off in rear then to sprint from last to first as if he was a Nijinsky or something.
Barzalona also seemed a bit unbalanced at times and I feel that during the summer, he will be ridden to sleep by Murtagh and Dettori with their forcing tactics.I see he misses this week’s Greffulhe, where Royal Revival and Ice Blue go head to head. Difficult to make a case for any of the others, so I think I will side with the former on Saturday.
May 7, 2010 at 00:18 #294476Really, you think Simon de Montfort is a good stayer? Hmm, will be interesting to see.
Saturday’s Greffulhe is followed by another JC trial at Chantilly on Monday, the Guiche. First 3 from the Omnium all return, as well as Arasin, Royal Bench (both need to find a lot on previous form) and the promising looking Foreteller from Juddmonte.
After that we should have a much better idea of how the Jockey Club field looks (we can already pencil in Planteur & Rewilding from the Noailles, Simon de M from the Force and Dunlop said he will send Elusive Pimpernel today). The Hocquart hasn’t run yet, has it?
May 7, 2010 at 10:41 #294504Hocquart is on the 16th I think
May 7, 2010 at 15:01 #294536Kopwas – yes that’s right forfait 1 is on the 11th…(maybe we shall see Rewilding’ there?)
Ole – from what I’ve read they plan to run ‘Simon’ over intermediate trips and longer ones 10-12f – is what they were saying…
He is marked down for the Jockey Club – for sure!
I wonder if Fabre will run all of his 3yr olds in the JC – or maybe keep one back for the GPDP?…ie ‘Re’?!UM – re: The ride on ‘Simon’ I don’t think that the jock is to blame – he’s said to be a bit tricky!
Part of why he flopped last year at SC was due to him being upset by the other colts – he’s meant to be over that now – but is difficult to settle by all accounts and the lack of pace hasn’t been helping the jock either!
It’s not the first time it’s happened either so if you back him be prepared for an edge of the seat ride!En route to the Jockey Club. It is true that Simon de Montfort (King’s Best) has not beaten a lot in Saint Cloud extraordinary in his return, but the way was the rendezvous. The colt Andre Fabre has produced two accelerations in the end, when it seemed in trouble at the entrance to the straight line. He had to cross a plateau between 2 and 3 years
If I were him (Bara) – I’d be more worried about being putting in all of the ground work…only to be jocked off for Frankie!
As for Johnny he’s not always spot on i.e. last years Ormonde stakes when the younger jock showed him the way!!I wouldn’t doubt the drive of Fabre’s two – youth knows no fear (they may lack experience but hopefully they have the ammo ) and there is a real determination there – did you see his reaction when he won?!
Bara calls ‘Si’ "his horse" and has a special connection due to him being his first G1 ride! – If I’ve understood the translation right…Have had a quick look…
Tomoz we also have the Cleopatra!UM – your ‘Pearl Away’ is in there – as is ‘Sandbar’ Ole and the former unbeaten ‘Media’…
I’ll be keeping an eye out for ‘Kavango’ (been off ages) early on where ‘Pink Gin’ tries to give weight all round…
We should know a whole lot more about the JC and the chances of the likes of ‘Royal Bench’ in the Guiche after the Greff…
‘Royal Revival’ had ‘RB’ behind in his maiden and also ‘Sir Ector’ twice bt by Freddy’s ‘Mubtas’.
‘Waldhorn’ also behind ‘Mub’ last time runs 2moz…to give us links as will ‘Tenacious’…Good weekend to all – and be lucky!
May 7, 2010 at 15:31 #294538Have just read this…seems as though Andre has no say in matters…
Godolphin switch four Fabre stars to Britain
BY LEE MOTTERSHEAD 3:18PM 7 MAY 2010
UNBEATEN Prix Ganay winner Cutlass Bay has been moved from Andre Fabre to Saeed Bin Suroor as part of a four-pronged transfer of high-class types from Godolphin’s French stable to Britain.
The four-year-old, who continued his rise through the ranks when taking the Longchamp Group 1 prize last Sunday, will be joined in Newmarket by Prix du Jockey Club candidate Simon De Montfort, Irish 1,000 Guineas hopeful Anna Salai and Rewilding.
However, the trio of three-year-olds will be based with Godolphin’s second trainer Mahmood Al Zarooni.
Godolphin racing manager Simon Crisford said: "This is all part of the arrangement that we have with Andre and we are delighted that the system we put in place last year is already
When the master has control yes!
Why not leave well alone…will you guys ever learn?!!
May 7, 2010 at 15:52 #294539I can’t believe this. FFS
May 7, 2010 at 16:18 #294543..how typical …
I’m now rather hoping Fabre wins the Jockey Club with something else..
but at least we might get to see those good ones racing hereOB, I was thinking Simon might be better at 12f than 10. We shall see.
Thanks for the info Zenjah
May 7, 2010 at 16:51 #294550And just when I was all set to predict Cutlass Bay as this year’s Euro champion…
There is no way that Andre is cool with this. But when someone owns your yard…what can you do?
The actions of Sheikh M seems insane, until you realize that he has 2 priorities: running a training camp for Emiratis and winning races. Obviously he can’t always achieve both, and I think the former clearly sometimes gets in the way of the latter, but he is presumably hoping that in the long term, it will stop being a trade-off between those 2 priorities.
Or he actually thinks these horses will do better with SBS/MAZ than Fabre, in which case he is fairly insane.
Also, I would have thought Anna Salai was going for the Pouliches, but that story Zenjah posted implies not because it mentions her only as an Irish-1000 hopeful.
May 8, 2010 at 21:19 #294788Well, nice job Ice Blue. wow, Juddmonte is hot. I had a feeling Royal Revival may not stay.
May 9, 2010 at 13:42 #294917Pascal is in form too…I do hope that the Fourth Noble truth is well and ready to lead us to Nirvana soon!
(It might not be a good sign of his ability however due to ‘Ice’ being described as the best)‘Ice’ did it well enough yesterday after being trapped when looking for a run – but then so was my namesake! ‘Handsome Devil’ …he run on well also…
Form from that puts ‘Planteur’ & ‘Rewilding’ in there…also through ‘Green Rock’ to ‘Celtic Celeb’ there’s not much between them and ‘Si’ but ratings say the same also!
All are lightly raced and are open to lots of improvement esp when they step up in trip…form is starting to stack…That piece I put on the other day about the transfer of horses never had this addition:
"There are no immediate plans for Cutlass Bay and Rewilding."
Would think ‘Re’ is being waited with…ie GPdP so the drift might suit if you are willing to give the new trainer a chance…though I do agree if you have French targets then why move country?!
All in all I’d say that ‘Dary’ fans/backers are quite happy at this news!
I have some other thoughts on ‘Cutlass’ to follow also…
gee can I get anymore smiley faces in one post?! – yeah -
