Well the decs are in and my god it looks like Frankel will have to be at his absolute best to win. The mud lovers that are Cirrhus, Ridasiyna and Nathaniel are all going to get their ground and Frankel is going to need stamina in abundance to see them off. What a cracking race in prospect – I am nervous already!

Wonderful start to the week in today’s Post with an article about how much Frankel is revered and admired in all the continents of the world. I had no idea his appeal had spread so far and doesn’t that just say everything about the horse and his trainer.

The build up is going to be incredible, let’s hope the show lives up to it!

Well I wouldn’t say that, he has 10lbs in hand of the whole field and has won on soft. While the French horses have won on heavy ground Nathaniel has never run on it so he is in exactly the same situation as Frankel as regards that.

    Nervous here too Joni.

I’m praying it doesn’t get to be heavy going and hoping for soft at worst.

If it turns up heavy and Sir Henry takes him out of the race there will be no complaints from me, but I get the impression that with Ascot having sold out on the strength of his appearance the pressure will be too much for him to duck it.

If the going is soft or better it will be a fair test of the entire field. Heavy ground creates a lottery.

An even bigger concern could be CDA’s finishing speed and the short run in. Let’s hope Tom doesn’t panic and cook his goose too early.

If Frankel wins this race, on this track, against this field at the end of what has been a lengthy season for him, I think he’ll go down as most people’s idea of the greatest race horse in living memory.

I hope he does for Sir Henry’s sake more than anything else. This horse is clearly the pinnacle of what has been one of the greatest training careers in turf history.

I’m going to shout myself … ahem… hoarse if he comes down the straight the winner on Saturday! :)

I get major butterflies every time Frankel runs. The nervousness I get from seeing him before and during a race has exceeded the butterflies I had when watching Dancing Brave all those years ago. I might be shitting bricks come Saturday!

I don’t think the soft ground will hinder Frankel. Let’s not forget he takes a size 7 – 7.5 shoe … an indication that he won’t stick in the mud like horses that have smaller feet. Although Cirrus Des Aigles loves soft ground and has a sharp turn of foot, I still think Frankel will take him out of his comfort zone.

This looks a like it could be a serious test for Frankel. Nathaniel has won KG & Eclipse on G/S ground, Pastorius a G1 winner over 10F on soft he also ran Danedream to 1L, Ridasyna won l’Opera on soft ground on Arc day beating proven G1 fillies Izzi Top and Giofra and it looks like Cirrus des Aigles with get his optimum conditions.

All the Frankel doubters it seems couldn’t have wished for a more thorough test, all four main challengers have G1 form over trip and easy underfoot conditions.

I read somewhere the clerk of the course thinks it should be no worse than soft on Saturday, lets hope he’s right and horses are able to compete in reasonable conditions.

On good/soft or even on soft I’ll take Frankel to still win easily by a wide margin, remember what happened the last time he ran on ground with soft in the description, he slaughtered Excelebration.

I think a similar display is on the cards for his farewell
performance, he’ll leave an indelible memory of a horse while he may never have been pushed to his limit of his ability it was still enough to persuade us that he is the greatest racehorse we may ever see.

Great posts boys! I am checking the weather forecast every 10 minutes! One of them was saying we could get up to 50mills by Saturday. Wouldn’t that be awful if it was a bog?!

Is anyone going? I am taking my little 3 yr old boy. We watch Frankel together every night before he goes to bed. I want him to be able to say in 80 odd years time "I saw the great Frankel!"

God – it’s only Monday. I am going to be an emotional wreck come Saturday!!!

I’ve never seen Frankel in the flesh and it’ll probably be my biggest regret in horseracing.

If it turned into a bog, my gut feeling is that Frankel would still run because of the reason Hammy pointed out … the sell out and the strength of his appearance.
What I always find comforting though are Tom Queally’s famous words "he has a will to win like no other horse I’ve ridden" … speaks volumes and reflects why he’s still unbeaten.

As I read this thread I know how you all feel.I feel exactly the same way about the upcoming election for president only the race that will determine the future of so many is hanging in the balance. If Frankel loses we will all get over it in less than four years.

I just cannot wait until Saturday now.

Assuming he runs we’ve all got what we wanted. In the build up to every race so far the Frankel detractors have been telling us that he has nothing to face. That it is a penalty kick. That despite the fact he has been declared well in advance for all his races it is somehow a cowardly act on behalf of his connections for taking on the various fields he has faced. Basically, like those of us who revere the horse they’ve known full well that his superiority has made him a red hot prospect before the races. Unlike those of us in his camp though they’ve turned it around to be critical of the horse and his trainer, and poured scorn on his victories.

Well now we’re all looking like getting what we want. The knockers have finally found the nerve to forecast his defeat in this race. They are telling us that he will not have it all his own way. That the French horse is a monster on soft ground and that there’s every chance Frankel will be beaten.

That’s brilliant IMO. If he wins now hopefully they’ll be quiet, or have the grace to herald what is without question one of the greatest horses of all time.

If he loses his critics can enjoy telling us they told us so. If he wins there will be no quarter for the cynics. They will have be proven wrong in no uncertain manner.

    Game on!

Agree this is Frankel’s toughest test to date, CDA is a superb performer on soft ground as is Nathaniel (although 12f is probably his best trip). If we wins this and wins it well I think the debate can end as to whether he’s the greatest of all time.

I certainly hope and think he will prevail, provided Queally gets it right and there’s no reason to think he won’t, I don’t think he can be beaten such is his superioty.

Hammy, Joni, I’m getting the butterflies too, nervous for Henry and Frankel, not since the 2011 Sussex have I been so ‘squeaky bum’ this early in the week! I’m confident he’ll do the business as he’s never let his supporters down before….think it will be hankerchiefs at the ready come 4.25pm Saturday, whichever way the result goes.

OK I know it does not mean a thing to you but I must admit your love for this horse has won even my cold heart over.

Fingers firmly crossed for Frankel and his connections, but I have a growing uneasiness about the Frenchman.
We’ve had almost two days of rain here, some of it very heavy so hope the ground doesn’t suffer for Saturday :?

I’ll have my fingers crossed for him too. The ground is currently rated as soft which will be fine for him as he’s handled it before and he should win comfortably unless it comes up heavy as that will be uncharted territory for all of the runners except for the two French horses.

Pit the race still isn’t at Newmarket as it is hardy ever worse than soft there and is a fairer track.
