Just looking with interest on the betting for this race and there is no mention of On his own, who has changed ownership from Graham Wylie to Patrick Mullins. He won a point to point last week in Tinhealy in County Wicklow, beating Usual Smurfer trained by Alan Fleming. Surely if he were to appear in this race he would be a treat but I haven’t seen him listed in the betting for it
January 13, 2017 at 10:05 #1281729Not sure why, but I was going through something the other day and found an interesting angle somehow and Foxrock was one of my results. Fits the trends for this race perfectly.
January 13, 2017 at 12:07 #1281740Hi Zark,
I highlighted Foxrock as a potential for this on similar trend notes. I also like that he travelled well at the festival in the NH chase a few years back before tiring 2 out. It bodes well for big field experience, touch of class and festival knowhow.
Does anyone know much about Ask The Weatherman? He won over the weekend in a good race. I like to keep an eye out for a potential smart type in this and from what I can gather is this is his target and he is highly regarded. It seems he needs a bit of cut. This race often goes to the “up and comer” under 10yo when there is the suitable weapon available. I have nibbled the widely available 16/1. I am hoping for the next Kingscliff/Salsify.
January 18, 2017 at 18:26 #1282637I am hoping for an encouraging run from First Lieutenant tomorrow at Thurles, and I think he could take a lot of beating in this if he retains enough ability. I thought he ran well enough last year, and looking forward to tomorrow’s run.

Foxrock cant run in this race having been place in a graded race last season.
Ted Walsh 2 weeks ago –
Foxrock has appeared as second favourite in some lists for the Foxhunter Chase at Cheltenham but Walsh revealed that he does not qualify to run in that race.“He’s fine and will go to Thurles in the middle of the month for a hunter chase there,” said the County Kildare handler.
“He’s not eligible for Cheltenham and will be confined to Irish hunter chases this year anyway.
“He’s not eligible in England as he was placed in a Graded chase last season.
“That rules him out of the big two at Cheltenham and Aintree.”
January 18, 2017 at 19:23 #1282640If that’s the case then on his own or first lieutenant aren’t eligible either. On his own was second in the graded bobbyjo chase while first lieutenant was second in last years Lexus.
January 18, 2017 at 19:28 #1282642Foxrock no longer offered by all bookmakers bar stanjames according to oddschecker.

Yes I read this the other day somewhere
January 19, 2017 at 10:11 #1282695None of Foxrock, On His Own or First Lieutenant are eligible for the Foxhunters.
Ask The Weatherman really interests me too and Irish Stamp, formerly of this parish, has already backed it and that’s good enough for me.
January 24, 2017 at 18:09 #1283612I think it is just as well First Lieutenant doesn’t qualify as his debut was hardly encouraging. Thank you all for that confirmation that he doesn’t qualify
February 5, 2017 at 10:03 #1285858Is there any news about On The Fringe? Is he going straight to the Festival?
I should of cashed out.
February 13, 2017 at 09:56 #1287187On the Fringe traveled and jumped like a dream yesterday and Jamie Codd only pushed him out under hands and heels against the hard ridden Foxrock who won by 3 lengths.
Looks like he will be very hard to beat at Cheltenham again this year, even without Nina on board.
February 13, 2017 at 10:39 #1287188Very good first run back. Think he stripped fitter today than he usually does, maybe Enda thought he left it too tight for Cheltenham last season. He’ll be going there spot on and I cant see him being beat.
February 13, 2017 at 12:18 #1287190It’s hard to see On the Frinhe being beat. Fantastic last year at both Cheltenham and aintree and I’ll be putting him in some antepost multis now
February 13, 2017 at 17:35 #1287235I always try to oppose horses like On The Fringe, but compared to last year, that was a much better seasonal debut. Even as a 12yo now, he looks solid, if already a very short price. Understandable I suppose, and with the services of the best amateur in the game in Codd, in the saddle, he looks rock solid.
Not really I a race I get involved in, but I suppose Pacha Du Polder looks big at 20’s.
February 14, 2017 at 12:36 #1287352Excellent run from OTF.
Probably the best prep he has ever had, be great to see the old boy do it again (and not just for my financial gain)
I should of cashed out.
February 16, 2017 at 12:23 #1287591Looked into this race a bit deeper after OTF the other day,and this Ask the Weatherman is a really interesting runner.
Just watched him absolutely dot up at Wincanton a couple of weeks back on rules debut and this horse is a superb jumper of a fence.Has one nine of his last ten races in point to points and is trained by Jack Barber, son of Paul and former Nicholls protégé.
Had to throw a few quid at it @ 7’s with Stan!
