It seems ludicrous that there is no way for people to access replays for the top Foreign races on the internet.
I am fully aware we live in a commercial world and one can understand why broadcasters are unhappy about their races being shown for free on sites like Youtube.
However, all the top french races are shown on both RUK and ATR so there must be a commercial relationship between the channels and the french broadcasters.
RUK/Racing Post also already has a charging system in place for watching race replays via the Racing Post site.
Surely all that is needed here is a chat – "20p to watch a replay of a French race of which 10p goes to the French broadcaster" could be a starting point?
Of course we wouldn’t be talking about huge sums of money here, but I think it is more the fact that the replays wouldn’t be being abused for free and they would provide a small revenue stream for the people who own them. It would also provide the Racing Post and/or ATR with a much better and more complete service.
July 22, 2008 at 13:13 #174172TDK, I think you can subscribe to a video service for French races on the http://www.france-galop.com website. Click on ‘Discover Horseracing’, and select ‘Race Videos’.
Looks like it’s a sliding scale, as follows:
2 € : 10 vidéos
10 € : 65 vidéos
20 € : 135 vidéos
50 € : 345 vidéos
100 € : 700 vidéosYou’re on your own after that, as all the rest of that page is in French!
July 22, 2008 at 13:53 #174178Wonderful.
Thanks Grasshopper.
July 22, 2008 at 14:14 #174185The direct link for this is http://www.chvideo.fr/homepage.aspx
In my experience it works very well.
For German videos, the site you need is the betting site http://www.pferdewetten-online.de/
This works slightly differently in that you need to deposit a certain amount into a betting account (I think it’s 25 euros) but then you can access past videos free of charge by using the calendar.
July 22, 2008 at 14:23 #174186Actually – the Racing Post should take a look at that site as it is in a different league to their video replay service.
The videos are of a much higher quality and don’t seem to make my computer crash every time I attempt to access them…
July 22, 2008 at 14:31 #174188There’s a chap on youtube who uploads all of the major french races, normally within 24 hours.. I won’t post usernames in case I get anyone in trouble but he is there.
July 22, 2008 at 15:01 #174198I think I read that there is a class-action case being taken in the name of the English FA against Youtube regarding the posting of copywrited? material on the site.
Could well be the death knell for Youtube unless you like homemade videos of some teenager bopping away to Boyzone in his/her bedroom (I don’t!)
July 22, 2008 at 15:03 #174200Germany has various bettings sites that offer near-free video service (after all, we do not have that much racing over here anyway); another one is racebets at
you need to log in and have a minium bet of €5 in 14 days in order to watch racing "free". You can, however, watch all non ATR – races for "free" then as well, with english commentry I might add.
The deposit on pferdewetten-online is 20€. ours are on since about 5 years now ….
July 22, 2008 at 15:56 #174212I’m surprised to see that people on here are actually touting German betting sites and the free archives. Personally I have not used Pferdewetten.de for a long time as it is a crap site but I’d be more than surprised if they offered replays of French racing, they never used to and had to shutdown their audio commentary on French racing after France Galop got a hold of them, just like all the other German betting sites.
The France-Galop website is to my knowledge the only officially sanctioned one for video replays and there is a surcharge.
For anybody more than remotely interested in French racing the Equidia racing channel is the only way to go. It’s product is vastly superior in every way, from the presenters to the camerawork etc etc, than anything British racing can offer on four different channels. Yearly subscrip. runs at approx 350-400 euros depending on which satellite service you use, excluding a second dish and receiver installation. Worth every penny and more in my book. Wont suit a lot of people on here though, who seem to think everything connected to racing should be free of charge
July 22, 2008 at 17:48 #174237Thanks for that information, Brendan.
Equidia looks like an excellent service, and Oh! that RUK and ATR could aspire to anything near the service that the French outfit gives.
It doesn’t seem that expensive either, do you think we could interest them in covering British and Irish racing?

July 22, 2008 at 18:52 #174259I have Equidia and am very happy with the service, im also a subscriber to www3.france-galop.com and use their professional service, what`s great with Equidia is its mainly advert free unlike the crap ATR,at least the presenters are normal people unlike `Loud mouth“ Chapman!!
Wish i could reccommend the wireless lan in this hotel (Vichy), it`s doing my head in has his the mobile tel connection, in fact its difficult to get a good connection anywhere in this town

I’ve no problem paying £600+ a year for form, an annual sub to RUK TV and another one to RUK internet. Why should a RUK subscriber pay another £2000+ to watch RUK replays on the web as well? Particularly when ATR offer all their racing for free on their excellent website.
Its a total ripoff imo.

Obviously did not have you in mind when I stated that but agree otherwise that having essentially to pay for more or less the same service twice regardless of cost is a ripoff

Vichy, a very enjoyable summer racing experience when the weather is agreeable. I’ll definitely be tuning in for the Gran Prix tomorrow evening.
July 22, 2008 at 20:38 #174290Excellent thread here with some really good postings that I can’t really add to, although when I was in Hamburg a couple of weeks back, there were rumours that the German bookmaker WettenLeip were going to do free online broadcasts, but I guess it’s a case of wait and see.
If you want free replays of overseas races, the wonderful http://www.ippica.biz website shows racing (and trotting) replays from all courses in Italy. Simply click on ‘Partenti’ at the top of the screen, and then you will see a list of all the days races – just click the yellow video icon to watch the race.
