He looked amazing this weekend being ridden in a demo at Barbury Horse Trials:

He looks totally different to his racing days, he’s muscled up all over his body.
July 8, 2013 at 18:32 #445140July 8, 2013 at 20:57 #445156You’re right – Kauto is a completely different shape nowadays.
I read on Facebook that
Kauto Star
was beaten by all-weather legend
Vortex
in a recent dressage competition. It’s funny thinking about those two competing together.

July 8, 2013 at 22:28 #445170Fantastic pictures he looks in wonderful condition and very happy in his new career. Heard that Monet’s Garden, Neptune’s Collonge and even the Tatling are all doing well in their chosen fields too, and good to hear that dear old Vortex is also out there competing.

Hope she recovers soon.
July 9, 2013 at 15:20 #445226That’s such sad news, everything seemed to be going so well for her, let’s hope she makes a full recovery from her injuries and gets back into the saddle once more.
Thoughts and best wishes go out to her and her family at this worrying time.Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...July 9, 2013 at 17:21 #445233Oh dear; another sad injury. I do hope she’ll be ok.

What’s The Tatling up to in his retirement?
July 10, 2013 at 13:14 #445310He is showing at the moment, Venusian. There is a Facebook group: ‘THE TATLING – Fan Club’, which is regularly updated with pictures from his activities.

July 16, 2013 at 06:34 #445778Good news on Laura, she’s on the mend.

As with humans, keeping active helps keep a horse healthy into their old age. Flatterer, whose fuzzy old face is in my avatar, is 34 years young, and his owner attributes his longevity to his long dressage career after he retired from racing.
Lots of racehorses don’t enjoy the traditional "put ’em in a pasture and do nothing with them" retirement. They need a job. Maybe Kauto is one of those horses.
July 17, 2013 at 17:46 #445881Good news. Laura’s coming out of hospital.
July 27, 2013 at 09:02 #446616"Event rider says air jacket saved her life in fall"
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/equestrian/23466911
This is an interesting article about Laura Collet’s fall. The theme of it is that Laura would have been even more seriously injured, or even killed, if she had not been wearing an air-bag jacket. I know that they have been used by motorcycle racers for a few years now, but did not realise that they are also used in equestrian events. It is good to see in the article that the manufacturers of the air jacket are talking to the BHA about their use in racing. Let’s hope that they can be introduced soon to minimise injuries to jockeys and work riders who fall in a race or on the gallops.
