Sir Des Champs all the way, unless it’s a bog. Think Flemenstar is overrated and run into some poor / out of form horses. Big Zeb is well below his peak.
December 4, 2012 at 22:54 #421688I’d be quite confident Flemenstar will come out on top on Sunday. He has race fitness on his side and I can’t see Sir Des Champs being knocked about on heavy ground first time out.
Imo Flemenstar needs to win on Sunday to justify his position in the Gold Cup market. If he can’t beat Sir Des Champs over 2m 4f on heavy ground in Ireland, with a fitness edge, he sure as hell won’t beat him in the Gold Cup.
Flemenstar by 3.

Agree about the fitness edge but i think SDC is the superior horse. Guess it also depends where and when his next target is
December 5, 2012 at 19:07 #421748The difference IMO will be Davy Russell. I do not rate him at all.
And so with that it has to be Flemenstar.
Shame Ruby cannot ride SDC.December 5, 2012 at 19:14 #421749Davy Russell is in the top four jockeys.
The others being Geraghty, McCoy and Walsh
December 5, 2012 at 19:22 #421751I hope Sir Des Champs wins this. If he can concede the fitness advantage to Flemenstar and still overcome this fairly decent rival, then we can think of him as a very exciting horse.
December 5, 2012 at 20:42 #421758Promising to be a craking cracking race! By no means a two horse races as some perty decent opposition in the mix, the two are going to have to prove they are the real deal for either to win. I get the feeling though that SDC could be forgiven a bad run here but not flemenstar, with rescept to the gold cup.
Are we going to be seeing the next gold cup winner?

Crazy comment, Davy’s right up there with the best. Your name says it all
December 6, 2012 at 22:19 #421860flemenstar for me at this stage in the season think he might have the edge over sdc although think it might be different come march
December 6, 2012 at 22:45 #421864Really love Flemenstar – a real machine

No need for comments like that "boglike"
It is my opinion which I am entitled to just like you. Its sly comments like yours that keep people off forums so climb back under your "bog" and stay there.

Grow up, it was a joke, and not a very offensive one at that!
December 9, 2012 at 18:05 #422210Excellent run from Sir Des Champs considering everything – I was very impressed. I highly doubt that Flemenstar would beat him later in the season.
December 9, 2012 at 23:46 #422230The race panned out pretty much as I expected. Sir Des Champs’ jumping was rusty and he wasn’t overly sharp when Davy asked him to quicken, he was only getting into top gear between the last two and at that stage Flemenstar had put the race to bed with a serious turn of foot turning into the straight.
Gold Cup dreams still alive for both sets of connections, and as a big fan of both horses, I was delighted with their respective performances.
I see Mullins has mentioned the Dial-A-Bet over 2 miles for Sir Des Champs in order to sharpen up his jumping. To be honest I don’t see much wrong with his jumping but it probably won’t do any harm, and with Gigginstown’s likely runners in the Lexus it gives them an option to keep their horses apart. Personally I hope he goes for the King George though, where’d I’d be confident he’d win.
December 10, 2012 at 09:15 #422250Hi all, I’m new to the forum, I was quite taken by the lack of support here for Flemenstar!
For me he oozes class from a small charismatic yard, he ran a scintillating display of jumping. He keeps progressing, the 3 miles doesn’t look a problem, if anything I think he’ll be better for the step up in trip. My other question for all the SDC fans is we’re you happy with his performance? First time out yes, but should he have been closer in the finish?
My concerns for Flemenstar are he needs to be racing with more horses around him, he obviously needs the experience of three miles against more seasoned horses (which he’ll get in the Lexus) and I want to see him come from off the pace not making the running. Other than that his jumping looks grand, he travels so well and in my opinion is going to be a real player in the 3 mile sphere.
Gonna be a champion!

I really hope you are right; it’s been a long time since the small guy had a look in. But I hate getting my hopes up, been disappointed so often.
