I remember many moons ago almost winning the Ten To Follow (well, in the first 50) when not many people had Monsun (or was it Lando?) in their list. Think it might have been when Pacemaker Magazine ran the competition. German horses are included for the first time in what seems ages, though Quijano is not listed.

How do you rate It’s Gino Darren?

German horses are well worth their place.

Well, Lando won the 1995 Japan Cup with (I think) Michael Roberts on board, whereas Monsun won more at domestic level. As for It’s Gino, I really didn’t think he had a chance in the Arc last year, especially as not only had he started the 2008 season in handicaps, but his two forays into Group 1 territory had seen him well beaten by both Kamsin and Adlerflug. However, the general concensus was that the quick pace in the Arc really suited him. If that’s the case, then maybe he’ll be suited to international racing. He was set to run in the Japan Cup last year, and I think he’d have done well there.

Sometimes, horses come along that, although not massively successful in their own country, go on to be international stars. Collier Hill and Phoenix Reach come to mind, and I’d put It’s Gino in that category. Domestically behind both Kamsin and Adlerflug, but his first foray on an international stage showed massive improvement, and I would guess there’s more to come.

Have one potential line made up-

    Campanologist

    – hate having godolphin runners in my ttf but think this one could be decent in gd-fm middle distance races.

    Cima De Triomphe

    – Think Cumani may be able to get some improvement out of him. Good ground and 1m2f looks to be what he does best and could get some opportunities.

    Gan Amhras

    – My idea of the derby winner.

    Lord Shanakill

    – My idea of the 2,000 guineas winner if the ground stays gd-fm.

    Manassas

    – Still well handicapped and could do something this season at reasonable prices.

    Serious Attitude

    – My idea of the 1,000 guineas winner

    Fame And Glory

    – If not the derby winner, could be a decent one for the GPDP and St Leger.

    Delegator

    – wants good ground to show his best IMO but on those terms could be the best around at 1 mile

    Tartan Bearer

    – Obvious credentials for a successful middle distance campaign this term.

    Naaqoos

    – missing the guineas but tthere are so many bonus race opportunities at 1 mile that think he could yet prove himself a decent pick.

Dont know if they areall in the comp as still need to get a copy of the list of possible selections, so may have to make some changes to that.

Manassas isn’t in the list. They’ve reduced it to 250 horses – I think to make it easier for people to enter.

Anyone heard where Conduit is likely to reappear?

Not in the Coronation Cup betting. If he is unlikely to run in a Group 1 before the King George, may not be worth as many entries as his ability implies. Then put him in with the two free entries in July.

I’ve been assuming that he’ll either run in the Hardwicke Stakes or the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud at the end of June.

Do we know any probable runners in the group 1’s Tatts Gold Cup in Ireland or Prix d’Isphahan yet. Anything likely to go over for the Group 1 in Italy?

They have entries for the Tatts GC on the RP website.

One I like for that race is

    Cima Du Triomphe

, Galileo/Danehill (like Teofilo) looks best at 1m2f (as I thought Teofilo would be), has done well over that distance abroad and wasnt disgraced in the arc. Cumani tends to do well with his imports, and fancy this one to be decent. Cumani spoke well of him a while back, and I also notice that Cumani is not going to campaign Presvis on the Flat Season this year (despite him looking like one of the most likely candidates in a weak looking year), is that a statement in itself of what he thinks of this one? Time will tell but I think he looks a very likely candidate for the tatts GC and could emerge as something decent for the Prince Of Wales if handling the likely gd-fm well enough.

    Hi Mark

Conduit is also entered in the Eclipse. They’ll have the list of entries on the website later today.

On the Italian Group 1 front:

    Black Bear Island
"We were happy enough with his recent run in France. It was a messy race in which he was dropped in and settled well enough. He’s been in good form since, and the immediate options for him are either the Dee Stakes or the Chester Vase or possiblt the Italian Derby."

Also, Freemantle is a possible for the Dante. Does that make him one of AOB’s three main Derby hopes?

The Italian Derby I believe is a Group 2 Gerald.

The Premio Presidente Della Repubblica is a Group 1 over 1m2f for 4 year olds and up at Rome. Last year on 18th May was won in a photo by Saddex in a photo with Pressing.

Will look the Tatts up on RP, thanks did not realise it was on there  silly me.
