The one she is very keen on though is Ezdiyaad, by Galileo. Big 4 year old filly but still a baby. Half sister to Makderah, dam half sister to Nayef, Nashwan and Unfuwain.
Ahh – that is one of my favourite bloodlines, the Highclere family. Herself was a duel Classic winner and her bloodlines extend further than Nayef, Nashwan and Unfuwain. They also include Height Of Fashion (well … no surprises there, being the dam of the three said horses above), Milford (Princess Of Wales’ Stakes), Wind In Her Hair (Gelsenkirchen Aral-Pokal) who in turn was the dam of Deep Impact, and Elegant Fashion (Hong Kong Derby).

NEW APPROACH – Sire[/color:1v4zjtg4] (Galileo) – Dam[/color:1v4zjtg4] (Park Express)
Ended last year when capturing the Group 1 Darley Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket and ended the year unbeaten as a two year old, winning also the Group 1 Bank Of Scotland (Ireland) National Stakes at the Curragh Group 2 Galileo European Breeders Fund Futurity Stakes also at the Curragh Group 3 Tyros Stakes at Leopardstown. Was an expensive purchase costing 430,000 Euro’s and is brother to seven winners including high class Dazzling Par and top-class Japanese sprinter Shinko Forest. Jim Bolger has no doubt got him ready for another campaign and should be around the lime light this season with entries in the 2000 Guineas, Irish 2000 Guineas, The Derby and the Irish Derby but first port of call looks to be the 2000 Guineas in May.
ZARKAVA – Sire[/color:1v4zjtg4] (Zamindar) – Dam[/color:1v4zjtg4] (Zarkasha)
Owned by the Aga Khan and trained by french trainer A De Royer-Dupre this filly looks a nice prospect to follow this year. With only the two career runs last year, she ended up landing the Group 1 Prix Marcel Boussac Royal Barriere de Deauville on only her second start at Longchamp. Is entered in the 1000 Guineas in May at present and rumours that she will go to the oaks at Epsom in June. The Sire is half brother to Zafonic and should have no problem getting the Guineas trip as Zafonic won the 2000 Guinneas back in 1993, the blood line looks good and definetly one for my note book this year.
TAMAYUZ – Sire[/color:1v4zjtg4] (Nayef) – Dam[/color:1v4zjtg4] (Alishq)
Hamden Al Maktoum owned and Freddie Head trained 3 year old colt.Has had only the two career starts with both runs resulting in nice wins.Has got two entries this year in the 2000 Guineas and Epsom Derby with the likely contest being the Guinneas.Sired by Nayef and half brother to Nashwan won the Autumn Stakes at 2 at Ascot. Won the Group 1 Dubai Champion Stakes at Newmarket and went on to record Group 1 wins at the age of 3,4 and 5 years old.The Dam Alishq by Nureyev who was a top class miler. a top class pedigree and one to watch for this year from france.
FRENCH RIVIERA - Sire[/color:1v4zjtg4] (Montjeu) – Dam [/color:1v4zjtg4](Arietta’s Way)
Half brother to Midas Way who was a double winner at 10f-12f trips and who was also seen winning over hurdles.Trained by Sir Micheal Stoute and owned by John Magnier, this 3 year old shaped nicely on his debut run at Nottingham last year when finishing second in a maiden event over 8f.Has an entry in the Derby this year and will have to watch how he has progressed from 2-3yrs.
ALAN DEVONSHIRE – Sire[/color:1v4zjtg4] (Mtoto) – Dam[/color:1v4zjtg4] (Missed Again)
Finished off last season with a touch of seconditis when placed in a Listed event at Pontefract to Siberian Tiger and finished second on two occasions at Chester in a couple of hot Handicaps.I would personally like to see Mark Tompkins step this up in trip this year to 10f-12f events, as is brother to Missed The Boat who was useful middle distance performer abroad in Norway. Is another that has got an Epsom engagement and if getting the 12f trip this season will have a chance as the bloodline shows plenty of stamina.
IBN KHALDUN – Sire[/color:1v4zjtg4] (Dubai Destination) - Dam[/color:1v4zjtg4] (Gossamer)
Godolphin’s 3 year old had a cracking season last year notching up four wins on the bounce from his maiden run with winning the Group 3 Deloitte Autumn Stakes at Ascot, and finished the year off when beating a well supported City Leader in the Group 1 Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster. Has top class entries this year which include the 2000 Guineas Irish equivalent and the Irish and English Derby’s and could be the horse that really stamps his authority over 8-10f this year.
JALIL – Sire[/color:1v4zjtg4] (Storm Cat) – Dam[/color:1v4zjtg4] (Tranquility Lake)
Astronomical money payed for this at auction costing $9.7m. is a second foal and brother to After Market who is a Grade 1 and 2 winner in the United states who has notched up 6 wins from 9 career starts. Was disappointing last year when being beaten on three out of four runs in the United Kingdom and could only manage a Class 5 maiden win at Ripon and it looked like this was going to be an expensive flop. But Godolphin again have got this horse on fire this year notching up 3 wins at the Dubai Festival including the Group 2 Al Maktoum Challenge.will be staying over in Dubai for now and i feel is a major player in the Dubai World Cup coming up this month. He will probably settle in the United States as he has adapted to dirt very nicely and would be no surprise to see this some where at Belmont Park later this year.
SMOOTH SOVEREIGN – Sire[/color:1v4zjtg4] (Kings Best) – Dam[/color:1v4zjtg4] (Mellow Park)
260,000gns second foal out of Mellow Park who was a lightly raced 3 year old for Jeremy Noseda and sister to Vintage stakes / Italian Derby winner Central Park, Mellow Park only managed a Listed win and the Group 3 Lancashire Oaks in her short career.Mark Johnston’s three year old ran a creditable maiden when finishing second to General Blucher this year at Lingfield and will no doubt come on for that run. Where he goes is another question as has got a Derby entry but a long way till June to see how this horse progress’s.
FOOLIN MYSELF - Sire[/color:1v4zjtg4] (Montjeu) – Dam [/color:1v4zjtg4](Friendlier)
This is trained by Barry Hills and the Sire does not really need any introduction eleven wins from sixteen career starts including the Group 2 Prix Foy Gray D’Albion Barriere,Group 1 King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes,Group 1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud,Group 1 Tattersalls Gold Cup,Group 1 Irish Derby,Group 1 Emirates Airline Prix du Jockey Club, which is a list with lots of merit.Foolin Myself unraced dam was half sister to top class User Friendly who was winner of the Oaks and St Ledger. He had two runs last year and eventually signed the season off with a win on only his second start wining a competative maiden at Headquarters. i feel this could be a money spinner this year for the Hill stable and will probably be out before long with the season kicking off this weekend.
FAST COMPANY - Sire[/color:1v4zjtg4] (Danehill Dancer – Dam[/color:1v4zjtg4] (Sheesalady)
Another one from the Godolphin camp, and signed off last season with two wins and a second to New Approach in the Group 1 Darley Dewhurst Stakes going down by just half a length and had the likes of Raven’s Pass,Rio De La Plata behind him. Holds some prestigous entries including the 2000 Guineas.Irish equivalent were no doubt he will come up against New Approach again in both events, but is one to pencil in your note pads this year.
March 22, 2008 at 12:46 #153285Smooth Sovereign was trained by Godolphin last year before being switched to Mark Johnston, so I presume he is one of their cast-offs?
March 23, 2008 at 14:09 #153415Im suprised knowone has mentioned Peeping Fawn. Cant wait to see her this season.
March 25, 2008 at 00:29 #153627I trust everyone availed themselves of the 8/11 on my pre season tip
MALT OR MASH

To be followed methinks…
March 27, 2008 at 19:44 #154131cruel sea has entry for the oaks (from the racing post website). barry hills yard also think that unraced 2yo Chateauneuf will be decent (from open day
)apparently brian meehans have some very nice 2yo’s to look forward to, although the lads there were reluctant to say who!
April 11, 2008 at 12:50 #157382Anyone know what happened to Jarvis’ ROYALIST (IRE), who shaped better than anything in a Goodwood maiden in the summer that contained a number that went on to be useful but was not himself seen again?
Hope you were on Prufrock. Looks a typical Jarvis 3-y-o to keep onside in these early 3-y-o handicaps, with 6f/7f likely to prove his optimum trip for the time being.
April 11, 2008 at 12:55 #157384Hope you were on Prufrock. .
We might have to wait until Tuesday’s "Punting High" to find out DJ. The suspense is already killing me!
April 19, 2008 at 18:23 #158770The one she is very keen on though is Ezdiyaad, by Galileo. Big 4 year old filly but still a baby. Half sister to Makderah, dam half sister to Nayef, Nashwan and Unfuwain.
Ginge
Hope you backed it…
April 19, 2008 at 20:43 #158797Don’t think she is a filly but that form looks mustard today, the one horse open to plenty of improvement pulling well clear with 2 that looked well treated beforehand. I shall be paying particularly close attention to the first 4 from that race next time.
April 20, 2008 at 15:19 #158897Famous Names 2,000 guineas trial form looks to have just been given a boost with the 2nd and 3rd coming 1st and 2nd in the Ballysax, which admittedly doesn’t look vintage, but still Famous Name certainly looks like a 3yo with a future IMO, having beaten those two very easily.
April 21, 2008 at 00:48 #158994Hard to hop off one bandwagon and onto another. Tamayuz now one to watch but I was most impressed visually by Famous Name – and franked form sweetens his credentials even further.
April 21, 2008 at 11:24 #159060Been looking forward to seeing Ask again. A lightly raced Stoute older horse of course. Never been bad animals to follow
Entered for this Fridays big race at Sandown. Might not be a price though…
April 21, 2008 at 11:52 #159067Liked the way Manyriverstocross ran in a Newbury maiden on Friday. Alan King doesn’t have many flat horses, but they often pay their way and he is nicely bred and should at least win a few handicaps over the summer.
April 23, 2008 at 07:32 #159335Mark Johnston’s Planetarium looks to have got in handicaps lightly from a mark of 88. Sure to be suited by a mile and a half, he’s the first of about ten from the stable that I’ll fancy at some point before June for the King George V Handicap.
A handicap mark about to be ruined, I think, DJ.
