Read this and weep ….while you are still reveling in the dross that is called AW racing ….when days get extra dreary , (and they surely will ) just rewind the video…or search you tube for Vatour , winning majestically today , for this was the biggest heart warmer seen on a racecourse for a very long time
Today Ruby had a small inkling of what is was to be Pat Taffe…a great horseman who rode horses over jumps with exquisite balance and poise…and none more so than Arkle , today Ruby had a similar feeling , as Vatour gave an exhibition , which only he himself can equal
Flat Muppets ….whilst the Sheiks grimace their way through more Group races ..the elite keep frowning , you can remember the warmth of this March day, a very special performance from Horse and rider , that will linger in the memory ….thank goodness for the jumps game , the thrills are just massive :
:yahoo:…one thing for sure you wont see any of the flat classic winning trainers, fitting on their hats on their friends….that would not exude the gravitas required ….Flat Muppets you are welcome to it
March 12, 2015 at 18:40 #829063Not another “jumps racing is best” thread.

I love both codes equally. Cheltenham is for me the best four days of the year! However, I enjoy the whole Flat (non-AW) season more than I do the whole Jumps. Have you seen the quality of some of the Summer jumping? Just as bad as some of the AW rubbish. “Flat Muppets” could easily argue Jumps Chumps suffer from these four days dominating everything, nothing else seems to matter.
What is this measuring stick “Jumps Chumps” use to be so certain they get more pleasure from Vautour than Flat Muppets do from Frankel etc? lol
Yes Ricky, by all means extol virtues of jump racing, it has so much to offer. Vautour, Un De Sceaux, Don Poli and Faugheen all majestically magnificent this week. It’s been an absolutely wonderful week so far. But why do we need this side swipe at the Flat? Why is it always the same way around? Flat Muppets don’t come on here pointing out death and injury on the fields of Jump Racing and horses going through leg and wind ops for Jumps Chumps pleasure.
Yes, you will see owners and trainers on the flat loving winning and playing around with “hats” in the winners enclosure in just the same way, they aren’t all mega millionaires.
Yes, Flat Racing has its Sheikhs, but Jumping has it’s “bankers” and big business company owners; seems you’re using a strange type of inverted snobbery. Ryanair’s boss forgot and did not even watch his winner of the 4 miler.

Value Is EverythingMarch 12, 2015 at 19:00 #829087Ginge …flat Muppets like yourself ,,,need to get facts straight …it was the cross country M O leary almost missed …frankly who could blame him , its a race for dizzy horses (about 12 laps )
Just get back to Southwell where you can start preaching your mantra
You will never get the point …sad really
March 12, 2015 at 23:13 #830115I backed a winner at Chelmsford today – all of a sudden I feel ashamed.
Thanks for THAT, Mr Lake! :)

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"March 13, 2015 at 06:10 #830449I do tend to agree with you Rickster. There’s nothing on the flat that can compare with Cheltenham. Brilliant, heart soaring, heartwarming, thrilling stuff. However, if you’re trying to compare it with the AW, you’re barking up the wrong tree. There’s plenty of dire jump racing too, summer or winter.
I still maintain that for any owner and or trainer, the thrill of winning is the same, whatever the quality of the race. Otherwise….why would they bother?I'd like to live in a place where they cordon off swans...March 13, 2015 at 22:36 #831223Hope you enjoyed your 2 day jolly in London gill.. Thought today was superb… Long time since captain Christy.. Epic story then… Today was just as great..well done the bradstocks..
March 13, 2015 at 22:53 #831228They’re different but, y’know, ever since I fell in love with the Ebor handicap I’ve grown to like flat racing more and more. I wish I understood more about pedigrees and suchlike because it’s delving beneath the surface of both codes that makes it interesting. Like having Christmas every week or eating chocolate every day it would get boring if racing was the same 52 weeks of the year. Vive la difference I say.

Had a brilliant two days thanks. Good ol’ M and S looked after us very well, although I could live happily knowing I never have to see another West End musical.
Even managed to catch a few snippets of the festival in the hotel telly!
It’s been a truly memorable festival, for awe inspiring performances, and deserving smaller yards. The flat can never top that. Bring on 2016! I’ve already got the week booked off work
I'd like to live in a place where they cordon off swans...March 13, 2015 at 23:36 #831243Is it not possible to enjoy both codes ?
I believe that the beauty and joy of horses competing is the attraction. How much money the owners have is irrelevant when you see brilliant performances whether it be on the flat or over jumps. An astonishing performance is no better or worse because there are hurdles or fences in the way it is just different !!
Sprinter Sacre in his heyday is no better to watch than Sea The Stars.
Frankel was jawdropping but so was Sprinter Sacre, Master Minded , Arazi, Shergar,Dancing Brave the list goes on.Enjoy it all and be thankful you saw it….

Doh, what did I say about the AW Mr Jump Chump?
I don’t like the AW either. Never had a bet on Southwell AW in my 30 years of betting.
…Oh and sorry, I meant the 3m7f, not the 4 miler. But what’s an extra furlong between friends?
As Burroughill says, you’re comparing crap flat with the best jumping has to offer. It’s not a fair comparisson. As I said, for me Cheltenham is the best four days racing of the whole year. But fortunately, the Flat does not congrigate all its best conditions races in to one meeting to the detriment of the rest of the season. Why do you need to believe Jump Chumps (like yourself) get more pleasure from their sport than Flat Muppets? …Sad really. What is this Pleasure Measure you use Ricky? How do you measure your own pleasure against others? With your “Jump racing is best” mantra, who is it that’s “preaching” here?
. I love both codes equally so am in neither camp, but can see why some (eg Joni) might prefer Flat racing… and can see why you might prefer Jumping.
Value Is EverythingMarch 14, 2015 at 00:19 #831247Ricky Lake, did you have a bad experience with a donkey on Weston beach as a child? We get it. You don’t like all-weather. Many of us do. What are you achieving here?

Could we at least have a single ‘Ricky Lake v all-weather’ containment thread?
March 14, 2015 at 10:34 #832440Great stuff Gill …lets hope next year is just as brilliant ..
.I am just waiting to see Vatour again , he really wowed me !!! for the record Frankel or sea the stars never did that ….albeit they were super duperyoun fellah ….read it and weep I am going to be torturing all you aw muppets a lot more this year

Ginger ….yeah your right of course ….I am just bored with the flat nowadays …hope you have a good one
